Hog hunting
« on: December 20, 2016, 09:41:00 PM »
I have never been on an outfitted or guided hunt and would like to try to hog hunt. I would be hunting with a few non traditional hunters and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to start looking. My 12 year old son will be going as well. My main focus is on a great hunt with good people and area and not so much on the kill.

Thanks
Nick

California is a great Western style spot and stalk. All of the scenery and excitement of a spot and stalk deer hunt, but for a fraction of the cost.

If you want to hunt free roaming hogs take a look at South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.  There are other states in the south/southwest as well with huntable wild populations (Oklahoma, Texas).  Most places north of those states will involve hunting high-fenced preserves.  Google searches will bring up plenty of outfitters that offer hog hunts.

Wild Things sounds like what you are looking for. Click the banner at the top of this page.

Beautiful hunting property, no fences, lots of swamp animals, hogs everywhere, and the friendliest hosts you could ask for. You eat like a king too!

I'll be going back in Feb, my 10th trip.

Wild Things is nice but I think it is traditional only so would not work for your group.  Check out  www.legacyoutdoorhunts.com.   Eric Selph runs hog hunts in Oklahoma that are set up well for traditional but allow all weapons.

I missed the part about some non trad members of your party. Wild Things is strictly traditional archery. Sorry.

Nicky Roth in southern Florida is archery only but is not limited to traditional gear.

Yep, Mule Creek Outfitters - Texas is the place to go. Mixed groups no issue there. Sponsor here and I've hunted their ranches for 12-13 years now - good hog and Javelina hunting.

Osceola Outfitters, St. Cloud, FL.  Never went when everyone didn't kill at least a hog or five. I'm going in January with a group of five guys; been going each year for the last 13 years.

Spot & stock; over feeders, or with hounds.  However you prefer. They've got it all.

A group of us have been traveling to GA come Feb or Mar for the last six years and hunting either Ft Stewart or one of the WMA's down there.  It's been a great hunting and we always kill several hogs.  Hogs are just meant to be hunted with traditional gear.  Sadly I just had arm surgery and most likely no shooting till at least spring  so will be carrying a thunder stick this year.
