Saxon American Recurve arrow help.
« on: December 30, 2016, 08:38:00 AM »
I know a fellow who has a 50lb Saxon American recurve 50@28. He draws to 29.5".

I have arrows that might work for his bow, but am unsure as I am unfamiliar with this bow and have never seen it.

GT Trad 400 spine factory arrows 3 4" straight fletch and are 32.5 bop. They are loooong.

I'm thinking 145 or 175gr points.

This fellow has no arrows to shoot and I wondered if these might help him get going. No saw. Inserts are already glued in. We have to work with the 32.5bop arrows IF he goes with them.

Any insight?

I have a Saxon American recurve, 58 inch and 64# at 28".  I shoot mostly/always wood.  My draw is a touch shy of 27" and my arrows spine 67# (on my Adams spine tester) cut to 29" with a 160 grain point, 3 5 inch helical fletch. Seems to be perfect for me and this bow.l

Well, If he is drawing 29.5 then he's probably at about 53-54 lbs which means a 400 spine arrow should be in the right ball park. (Is that bow cut to center?) Try them with different points - maybe start at 125 grain and then 145 and 175.  Ill bet you get something that works.

Not cut to center.  I would think that a 400 with the range of points you note would work at his draw.

I was skeptical and suggested he get 500s at 30.5" and tune with point weight.

The 400's should work Bud - but you may have to go with 200 grain points...Thats been my experience with bows in that weight range...500's may work with a 125 grain point but you are going away from a hunting weight arrow with that.....
