Bearpaw Kiowa vs Kodiak Magnum grip
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:32:00 PM »
I'm looking for a short 45# recurve. I like the feel of the newer Kodiak Magnums, but Kustom King has brand new Kiowas on sale for under $350 (about the same a used KM). Bodnik has a 30 year warranty on his bows, compared to a 30 DAY warranty I recently saw on one custom bowyer's website!

I'm just wondering if any of you have shot or held both bows and can compare the grip size. The newer KMs have a nice slender grip that I really like with my stubby fingers.

Ask the folks at Kustom King. I believe they also sell Bear, and could put them side by side and see any differences.

They don't list the Kodiak Magnum anymore, so I figured they might not have one to compare. I'll ask them though.

Thanks, Frank. I've shot your old one before. I guess I just held the newer one. I sold my Orion, so I'm kind of looking for a replacement with less draw weight. I'm kind of intrigued by the Kiowa. It looks like a KM from the pictures, but kind of hard to tell for sure if the grip is similar. I like the way your new one feels. I also thought about making a road trip to The Footed Shaft to handle the Bear Cheyenne he has and a couple others. Sounds like the weather is going to suck tomorrow though.

If you are looking for a short recurve the only one I would recommend would be Teolke.

I think The Footed Shaft has 2 or 3 Grayling made K-mags right now.

Toelke certainly makes a quality bow, but their grip just doesn't get along with me.    :banghead:

Yup, but they are too stiff for me at this stage of my life. I'm dropping down to 45# to save what's left of my shoulder and arthritic fingers. I went ahead and ordered a new Kiowa. Hard to beat the price for a new bow with a 30 year warranty that goes with the bow. I doubt that the finish will be up to Toelke's standards, but I suspect it will rival Bear's fit and finish. I'm more interested in performance than aesthetics anyway.
