New year=new bow
« on: January 08, 2017, 05:21:00 PM »
With the new year came my new bow! I went to Kalamazoo last year with the intent of shooting a select few bows I had narrowed down the possibilities to. When i shot a Javaman Assyrian i knew this was what i wanted!
BTW anyone who hasn't been to the Kalamazoo expo- GO!!! It is an amazing collection of all things related to trad archery.
Back to the story...i spent the better part of a year waiting for my number to come up. Just after Thanksgiving i got the call. Gregg (Javaman) and i spoke several times regarding what i wanted. Together we selected the riser wood, lams, and grip material.
I had an idea of what the finished bow might look like but when it arrived i was very pleasantly surprised. It is a beauty!
She wears copperhead skins on her back but leaves her Osage belly bare. Her midsection has just the right amount of curves made from black palm. Around her waist is beaver tail leather. She is 48#@28 and 58" tall. I am smitten.
Draw is VERY smooth all the way. I dont have a chrono but compared to my other sticks she is fast.
We have a week left in our season here so i am hoping to take her to a favorite spot and see what kinda luck she brings.

Your bow is further confirmation of the beautiful work from Javaman bows!

I just rejoined the trad community last year, and bought 3 bows.  I think this year will be more focused on arrows and tools - but probably not completely bow-less!

Congrats on a sweet bow!

Thanks everyone.
Yes, Gregg can certainly make some nice bows. Great individual to deal with as well.
A few of the things that really cinched my decision to go with a Javaman were 1) the grip- they absolutely fit my hand perfectly. Each time ya grab the bow your hand naturally sinks into the same sweet spot. 2) the smoothness of the draw. Does not stack! Makes it feel like you are pulling a significantly lighter bow. 3) weight. The mass weight is minimal but in spite of this there is no hand shock.
Needless to say i am beyond satisfied with both looks and performance of my new stick!
