Whats going on with these deer?
« on: January 30, 2017, 12:32:00 PM »
I have several trail camera pics of deer with something weird going on -- see below:

They look like they are in velvet but the pictues were taken this month.

What is going on with these deer?

I have seen deer that never dropped their antlers and that haven ever lost their velvet to. A couple years ago I saw a dead  buck on the highway around December that had full velvet. It was weird

I killed an old 6 point in south Texas a few years ago that was still in velvet mid December. It happens. Most times it is because their hormones just do not kick in causing them to not want to rub and such I suspect.

Stags. No testicles. Weird horn growth is the sign.

Yup...based on the look and what you describe, I'd say they are antlered does.

I'm thinking antlered doe as well .
See them like that on a deer farm not far from me

I agree -- in the full pic, the head and body look like a doe.  Everything except the antlers

They call them Cactus bucks. I believe they are sterile and do not she their antlers.

This. We've had a couple of those killed around where I live. If they do have their "parts", they'll be very small, about like marbles. Normally they don't shed their velvet and hang out with does the majority of the time.

They are Perruque heads, and yep usually caused by Damage to the testicles.
Seems really weird that there are so many in one place. Might be worth looking for a cause. I would definitely put one on the ground when you get the chance and see if you can see any sign that gives an idea of what caused the damage.
