Cool pics. I live in GA, not too far from Cohutta. It is rugged land. In your pic of the buck his tarsal gland looks pretty dark like he may be in or just came out of a rut cycle. Funny, I was talking to a GW from the area last year and said they had a problem with too many does and that sometimes there are 3 rut cycles because there aren't enough bucks on public land to breed all of the does and the fawns from the 3rd rut cycle are so small before the next winter that they rarely survive. Since here in most of northern GA we know rut is the week of Thanksgiving, give or take a week, this makes sense from your pics. Anyway, he encouraged to take does during bow season and not to hold out for a buck. Makes sense now.
Life can be complicated. Hunting shouldn't be.

As for turkey in GA. We have an infestation. BUT, for every turkey there are at least 4 hunters. You will see them year round except from about 8AM on opening day of turkey season until the hens start nesting, then you see a ton of hens until about a week or 2 after the season closes. We have a lot of public land in GA, a lot of wildlife but it can get very crowded. I am still trying to figure out public land hunting here. One thing I have noticed is that there are a lot of fair weather hunters here. If it's raining or really cold your chances are better for not seeing other hunters.

Looks like a great trip.  I love camping hunts.  I can't wait for the day I have some more time during fall to get around (or even winter).  Thanks for sharing.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
