New bow suggestions
«

Currently shooting a Sammick Sage #60 and was looking to pick up another bow or two. I already asked about the Bear Super Mag 48 in another thread but I wanted to get a full size as well. Currently have my eyes on the Bear Super Grizzly in #55. Priced at right about $500,I was just curious what other options I have in that same under $600 price range.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm a big fan of the classic "D" shape with a smooth front line. That's why the super grizz is so appealing at that price. Aesthetics go a long way, ha. Even though I'm more worried about the way it shoots I feel like it has to look appealing too.

Check out the Hunters Niche Predator. The deign is very similar to the Bear Kodiak or Big Horn Bows. Great bang for your buck. They are often compared to some of the better customs. Very smooth draw and dead in your hand. I have a Hunter version, no frills. 2 guys in my crew that shot my bow bought Predators. My 46@28 shoots more like a 50 and I draw 26.5 inches. They are definitely worth a look.

I have always wondered what the difference between a super grizzly and standard grizzly if you hand them both shooting the same arrow, side by side. I really like the grizzly I got but cant help but wonder about the "super"\\
as far as suggestions goes it depends on what you are after, do you want to stick with a recurve or do you want to try a longbow? a good r/d longbow design is hard to beat in my book.

If you check my tagline you will see how many bows I have and add at least another 20 I have sold or traded. This year I will hunt with a couple of 52 inch bows that I bought used. I paid 150 for one and 325 for the other. One is about 25 years old and the other 55

I 2nd PeteA's reference to the Predator. I have an Anniversary version and my son has the metal riser and a Classic. Great bows that resemble very much the Super K but I think a better built and shooting bow. These can often be had for less than $500 on the used market and that's the way to go if you can find your specs.
Personal preference here for sure but I prefer more wood (heft and aesthetics) in my riser than the Grizz and some others.

A fine fellow that used to hang out here a bit who specializes in Lefty bows has a RH Predator on his sight right now for a very nice price.
I'm not listing the name of the site or its url because I that might be a violation of terms here.

If you have $600 to spend you can pretty much buy anything out there. They won't be new but they will be better than factory in many instances. I own many older bows and some are real shooters. My latest favorite is a Brackenbury Legend built by Jim prior to his passing. I have about $300 in the bow and it is comparable to my late model Robertson and Blacktail bows. New is nice but count on at least 40% depreciation in the first year. A quality factory bow is a big step up from the Sage, but in my opinion, a quality bow built one at a time by a renowned bowyer will put you into a whole different ballpark. Don't be afraid to try a twenty five year old used custom bow while you are shopping. Some of them are real jewels.

Mike at Maddog Archery makes an excellent longbow, and I hear his recurves are just as good. Woods of your choice, roughly $300 to your door. Fast, smooth, and accurate. You are going to go a long way to find a better bow at that price range. Heck, buy both a longbow AND a recurve for $600...
