Budget crester?
« on: March 01, 2017, 03:31:00 PM »
Been thinking about purchasing or building an arrow crester. As commercial units are a bit costly, has anyone here built one that works well?

Cordless screw drivers, Sewing machine motors, variable speed drill. Search DIY Arrow crester. You'll find tons of info.

Captain*Kirk,
If you PM your email address, I'll be glad to send you photos of the crester I made for less than $12, and the POC shafts I made with it.  Amateur is probably too kind a term for my abilities, but it will give you some ideas.

I have a spin rite and its OK. I bet you can build one just as good for pretty cheap. They are nothing fancy at all.

I, too, started out trying to make my own the cheap way, but then I found the spinrite and decided not to reinvent the wheel.

That crester has served me well, and is worth the investment MANY times over.

X3 what Mike and Tim said. Great tool that will more than likely last a lifetime. I feel the same about a high speed arrow saw. I have had mine since the early eighties and still works and looks like new.

ive done some good cresting with a drill, a screw driver bit and runner slingshot tubing.
Make a cardboard rest for the other end and go to town.
works well.

Well, I have stopped my immediate search for a budget crester due to the generosity of a TG member who offered me a older Bohning model at a price I could not refuse...but in the interim, I had another TG member send me photos and instructions showing how he built his (Thank you!)and also ran across a few very interesting videos on YouTube, if anyone is interested:
