Nice birds guys!!

Shot this day 2. Opener was a bust there were hunters everywhere. Got this when we saw 2 hunters sneak onto private land to kill a bird we had been watching from public. Well they shot (gun) and the birds scattered over to us. Pays not to trespass I guess!!

I had a great hunt Friday night.  I saw a hen with an 8" beard and shot a tom with a 7.5" beard.  The string tracker worked great.  He went 80 yards and hid in a brush pile.  No blood trail.

Restraint is a fine thing but that hen would have looked good on the smoker.    :biglaugh:

I got a picture of a Tom from my truck last week, but I wasn't packing my bow.  Seems like they can read my mind....

Got lots of gobblers that are within range; of a 30-06. Had a bearded hen at 4 yards a couple of days ago but let her pass. Still a lot of season left here.

First of all I have to thank all the trad gang for the helpful info!
This is my first turkey, and my first trad harvest.
Never would have been successful without the wealth of knowledge here.
Shot placement on a turkey, I never would have considered that the vitals were up near the top!
Shot at 22 yds no blind, just waited for a flock I saw earlier that had split up to rejoin, and waylaid them in between. Let the real turkeys call the other real turkeys and waited, blended into a tree. Drew when this lead Tom went behind a bush, shot when he was in the open again, thank goodness our brains go auto pilot, arrow went right where I was looking.
Went thru both lungs and  just clipped top of the heart severing one of the big blood vessels.
Although the arrow passed through the bird, it stayed in till he did his third somersault, it then fell out, he went maybe 30 ft, and that was cause it was a very steep side hill, otherwise he would not have made it ten feet.
Used my Black River 45lb Hybrid bow, Easton axis trad 500 spine arrows, 75grain insert 150 grain Eclipse single bevel broad heads , arrow 515 grains 19.4 foc. 170 fps
There is an amazing amount of bone surrounding the vitals.
It's no wonder they are considered a tough bird. Small vitall area and very little room for error with shot placement
Been shooting everyday since November, and it definitely paid off!

Congrats everyone!!  I went out Thursday morning for the first time. Had a lot of excitement. Had a couple of gobblers fighting. I caught some of it on cell video, mostly audio. Anyway, two longbeards came in but not to the decoys. They stayed on an old logging goad just 15 yards away. I didnt realize how close they were as the shoot through screen messed with my depth perception. Coulda killed them with a gun but that's not the way that I wanted to do it!!
