How many Tradgangers would like to one day see a book written by Barry wenzel containing the information he offers at his deer camps.  Hear so much about how good they are but no opportunity to attend due to family commitments

Yes, I think a book is a great idea.  I would definitely buy it.  I had the good fortune of having Barry come to my farm earlier this year.  He spent a few days looking around to locate good areas and then I spent a full day with him walking the areas that he found.   He has an unbelievable amount of practical knowledge and seems to truly love sharing that knowledge with others.   I enjoyed spending time with Barry and am looking forward to putting some of the information to use this Fall.  After he left, he sent me a ton of useful information via email.   I know that he knows much more about deer hunting than he was able to convey in a few days and I think I book of practical deer hunting tips by one of the great all time traditional whitetail hunters would be in big demand.

I went to a seminar in Ohio at about the same time frame and saw Gene, Barry and I think Paul Brunner. Too bad I wasn't old enough to be able  to absorb much at that age.

I think another book by Barry would be great. But that still won't be the same as walking the woods with him, as in his boot camp. There are some things that are difficult to put into words for an individual to understand. But by walking and talking as you go through the woods and seeing for yourself, is what a lot of us need to put all of the puzzle pieces together.

I agree. I love Gene and Barry's stuff and own just about every book and video as well. To be honest October whitetails is probably the main reason I dove into Traditional bows. I too would love to see a new book or video or combo! An updated October whitetails perhaps. As much as I love Gene and Barry's stuff I'll probably never be able to afford the boot camp for this I apologize.

Hey Barry, if you read this, My son loved the book you autographed for him. In fact he said he would keep the new autographed copy and send his other copy packing

If you write a book about the information from the boot camps after you no longer offer them, sign me up However I know there is no way to teach someone with a book as well as you can by showing them.

:clapper:  I agree with those who say that things are better taught hands on.  But Barry is a well of knowledge that should be drawn from in any way possible. Hope when he no longer does his deer camps he will consider sharing whatever knowledge he can not only for those of us in the sport now but for future generations who will lose this knowledge if not past on.

I don't even think it has to be a book.  An online video course is what I would buy.   Something akin to the Ironmind series for example.

A video of the course he teaches now, with some expert editing may be a long way down that path already.

I just hear nothing but great things about the course, but will likely not have the time to attend.  And sadly at some point Barry will stop teaching it and the worst of all that is the information that would get lost.

Just hopeful...

books are out there several with a lot of info on deer hunting and I've been shocked to look at some of the things he said over the years and used in west Texas around feeder sites pertty much like food sources in Midwest. Now UB got New plumbing installed he need to get off his butt and combined some old and some new stuff in a New book. IMO.  BOB

Well then he has to write two books. I want to read the one about all the off the wall events that has happened to him.

seriously, start with his and Genes last books. They are full of information.

Thank you all for the kind words. I just finished four weeks straight of whitetail educational sessions. I've said after doing up to six of these per year for the last thirteen years these might be the last ones. In all honesty, I stand by the fact the hands-on practical application of being in the timber is much easier to understand than by reading about it. On the other hand I feel reading my theories and opinions might be better than nothing. A book on the techniques would have to include a ton of drawings/illustrations. I fear a lot of our woodsmanship skills are being lost to future generations. A large percentage of our young hunters think hunting is no more than sitting in a shooting house over a food plot now days. We can thank TV for a lot of that. I've always been of the opinion that time spent in the timber with boots on the ground greatly increases the self satisfaction when it all comes together. And that's what this is all about. Not necessarily the inches, but the bonding with nature; bonding of fathers/sons/family,camaraderie and memories that will last a lifetime.
These last four whitetail bootcamps ran me into the ground. Yes, I had the triple bypass last year the day after #2 ended and feel much better. But I've also been dealing with a severe bronchial condition for five years in a row now too. As much as I'd enjoy continuing these educational sessions I'm afraid I won't be able to physically. Breathing is a big thing in life. Ha.
Regarding putting it in book form, I have more than enough info to write another book. But frankly after the terrible production experience I had with the publisher of my last book I'm more than a little hesitant. Because I'm more comfortable in the woods than behind a computer I'm lost in this modern world of high technology. When it comes to books on tape; online video courses, e-books, etc. I'm a low-tech guy in a high tech world.
My last book (Once Upon A Tine)is mostly entertainment. I've been told if you read between the lines you can pick up on my hunting techniques. Maybe so, but I think another book geared more so to hunting techniques would be more beneficial to our future generations.
Right now I'm in the middle of another huge video project you guys will really enjoy. I don't want to get into it quite yet, but it will include some very old and rare footage. I also have several other irons in the fire so to speak. When the dust settles hopefully I'll pick up this new project before I kick the bucket. Ha. Stay tuned and thanks again. BW

I wish I had a tape recorder going the times I had the privilege of driving Barry to Quebec bear camp and Denton Hill. Plus he and Gene helped pick tree stand sites for our Iowa deer hunt this past fall.  I feel really lucky. Barry if you're reading, you need to come on another road trip to the Paradise with me  :)
