Hello, my name is Quill, & I'm a bowhuntaholic!

There, I said it. I feel much better now!...LOL. Figured it was about time to introduce myself.

Same ole story, started with stick & string as a kid. Went to those solid fiberglass sticks made by AMF I think it was. Then found about girls, & cars, & beer......& all the fun to be had mixing 'em all together! Forgot all about archery for awhile!...LOL

Then I tried a compound bow. Wow! Really easy to hold! Got me one, 70 to 80 lber. Took about 8 months before I realized I liked flinging quills more than I liked tinkering. So that was the end of the compound. Now I'm just a poor country boy (okay, "old" country boy now). Managed to pick up a 65# Bear "Grizzly" for a cheap price & I was off & running.

Hit a plateau as everything I learned came from books & trail & error. So decided to join a club & get lessons. Got lucky too, a junior olympic coach that explained many thing I didn't understand etc. Also learned to shoot with a very straight wrist.

Sold the Grizzly & bought a Red Wing Hunter. Played around with that for a spell, but began eyeing those custom made jobs,....man,...I love BOWS! But alas, I am wealthy in many aspects of life, but not monitarily! Had to have a custom bow though,....so it was Bingham Projects! Turned out pretty good,...at least the 2nd riser did (bubinga),...broke the first one, was ash. Another fellow tried it & loved the custom high grip I made so sold it for a wee profit.

Then I found out about Howatts. Love those bows, still have 3 of 'em, LH hi-speed, RH Super Diablo & a Mamba, but they're all lighter weight.

~~~Warning! Stupidity Ahead~~~~~
Worked construction, back injury caused some problems. But, I could still draw a 65# bow with arm strength alone, so kept on shooting cause I love to just watch quills fly. Then came tendonitis, so I switched hands & kept on a flingin'! Dumb! Then I blew the right shoulder. Took 3 years to recover, without flinging a quill!!
Bout 9 years ago,...saved enough for a custom bowyers craft. But the Canuck buck was so bad then it was nearly double the cost for a USA made bow. Met a fellow who made & sold arrows named Brad K. Who happened to have a friend that was a bowyer, named Abe Penner. Well I got him to craft a "Taiga", 54# @ my draw. Great bow, still have it. All shedua with red elm limbs under clear glass.
Had another circumstance of injury, & having learned my lesson, refrained from shooting for the past 2 1/2 years. Likely wouldn't have started again just yet. But, every year for the past 20 or so years, I've put in for a limited entry draw for elk on Vancouver Island. Never been drawn, til this year. Odds were 38.2 to 1 of winning.
Things are working out pretty good now. With the Canuck buck up, & me having saved a few bucks not hunting, going on trips, buying hunting stuff & gear, I've decided this year I'm gonna try every bow I've thought about, & even some I haven't!
So far, I've purchased 1 new bow (Rose Oak), 1 used bow (Brachenbury here @ TradGang classified) & have coming next week another used bow (Border with just about every available option to be had a year ago) & have on order another new Rose Oak & a Wapiti.
I'm about broke now,...but I'm back in the game baby!
We bow hunt not so much for the thrill of success, but for the love of the hunt.
Welcome to the group. You're in the early stages. Wait until you hit full "Rowan" then you're a bowaholic.    :biglaugh:
Welcome Brandy, that used Border should just about be there, that is if the customs boys are done shooting it.
Hey Ted!
Naw, takes 'em forever! They're already complaining at the post office about the number of out of country sales packages coming in, what with the high Canuck buck & all.
Ya think them arrows will catch up with it?...LOL
Vermonster - Uh uh! I've seen you guys in action! I "was" a 1 bow type dude. Learn to shoot it well etc.
I have 10 slots in my bow rack. Only 1 empty one left. Once it's filled, 1 has to depart afore another comes in! It's a law!!!...LOL
I also suffer from sentimentality,...not just mentality! So some bows may never depart.
Thanks for the welcome!
