I applied for my WY antelope tag! Tick, Tock
« on: May 04, 2017, 07:26:00 PM »
Last year, I was fortunate enough to obtain private land permission in WY to hunt antelope with a buddy.

We had a great non-trad hunt. The ranch was about 2,500 acres and had lots of antelope.

I called my buddy this spring to find out if he was interested in hunting on the same property again?

He said he couldn't go. I then asked permission to contact the rancher. I only wanted to proceed if he truly didn't care. He said he didn't mind at all and provided the phone number.

I called the rancher, who graciously allowed me to hunt her land this year.

It turns out there are no other bow hunters who hunt her ranch, and she has a ranch in the adjacent county she calls her Mulie Ranch.

There are no bow hunters that ranch either.

I'm hoping to draw an antelope tag this year and possibly bow hunt her Mulie Ranch next year.

Who else is hoping to speed goat hunt this fall?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya' buddy.  That just sounds exciting, mulie ranch.  The images I see in my mind are amazing.

Lucky,
I've been rifle hunting for antelope, never archery. It will be a fun but frustrating challenge.
I've been to the same ranch a couple years in a row. They don't allow bow hunting out there

If I had access like that, I would move to Wyoming. I guess the days of over the counter archery tags are long gone.

I was planning to apply with my son, friend, and brother.  But the winter kill has alarmed me.  We had to pay the "Special" fee to draw in the Cheyenne unit last year (20,000 private acres - were the only 3 there- son didn't go).

So, we are going to put in for a KY WMA hunt I have 7 years of points saved for.

Good luck in the draw.  What unit you in? Do you have to spend the Special application money to get drawn?  I may buy a point to have a better chance next or the year after.  Still haven't killed a buck antelope with my bow.

I've spent the $ for the Special tag the past two years. This year, I just went for the regular tag. I have purchase elk and deer points the past two years, but I have zero preference points for antelope. Who know?

I've bow hunted them with compound and actually missed one on a DIY hunt. I rifle hunted them last year. The past two years, me and my buddies have had a 50% success on DIY bow and rifle. Not bad!
