Aluminum spine arrows for 42@29 Widow PMA?
« on: May 10, 2017, 07:31:00 PM »
Hello there, I'm trying to compete in the Western States Trad Rendezvouz, and to compete they only allow woodies and aluminum  arrows (no carbon).
Should I buy 2016 or 1916 with a 30 length?
Currently they seem to like 500s, so I'm thinking 2016s.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Depends on how your bow's shelf is cut.  I shoot 1916s cut to 30-1/2" out of a 45# recurve, and longbow, with a 28-1/2" draw, with 125gr points.  2016s may be stiff, but may work. They shoot the same out of my recurve, but I notice the difference with the longbow.

Widows like a stiffer shaft. At least that what their pamphlet used to say. Even my old MA 11 was cut to center. I would go the 2016 as well especially if 30 in.
In the AM call them or email them for help. Their pretty good about helping.

Thank you! Pma is cut past center and likes a stiffer shaft. I'll call them but 2016 seems right.
Thanks!

I would call LAS and order 1 or 2 of a couple of different sizes...
2016, 2114, 2213

A lot depends on the tip weight and your centershot.
Super Curves.....
Covert Hunter Hex9h
Morrison Max 6 ILF
Mountain Muffler strings to keep them quiet
Shoot as much weight as you can with accuracy

I've had several widows, similar specs, yes they love stiffer arrows and I think that 2016 should be gtg

The upcoming Western States Trad Rendezvous over Memorial Day weekend in WA state allows all arrow types.

Competition?  I know there are a couple fun events such as long elk shoot and a version of "eagle eye", but all arrow types are allowed as far as I know.

If there is another WSR event you are referring to, then sorry...

trad-in-cali...what is your draw length?

You didn't mention that and it's impossible to determine what shaft is best without knowing that.

I have had great success with the Dynamic Spine Calculator.

It considers the make and draw weight of your specific bow, figures in your shaft length, recommended spine, and point weight.

You can tweak it from there...
