Broadhead tuning
« on: November 02, 2007, 10:07:00 AM »
Hi guys yet another question for ya! mY BOW IS TUNED FOR FIELDPOINTS GREAT, BUT... when I put on my broadheads and shot they seem to be a little nock right,   I did not do anything at this point because I didnt want to screw up what I did already. 64inch recurve, 54@28 29 inch 2117 arrow, tipped with a 145 grain FIELDPOINT, My broadhead is a magnus stinger 150 gr 4 blade. ( I weighed them and they came in at 150,153 ect..) My groups seem alot tighter with the field points on HELP...  :banghead:    :banghead:

Broadheads magnify any tuning or form errors.

The larger groups with broadheads just means your release or form isn't perfectly consistent (who's is?  :D )

As far as the flight issue, are the broadheads impacting to the left of fieldpoints or are they grouping with them (I'm assuming RH shooter)?  I'm guessing they aren't grouping with them. 2117's spine out at a little over 80#, and should be overspined for that bow with 150gr tips.

Had the same issue myself the other day. Field tips were flying good but put on a 200gr STOS and suddenly the arrows took a dip just after release and hit 4-5 inches low. I just moved my nocking point down maybe 1/16th inch and bingo! My next 5 shots from 12-20 yards were in the bullseye. Put my field tips back on and they grouped better than before as well. Lesson learned, always put a broadhead on before you think your arrows are flying well.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

My Bear razor heads hit high. Nocked the arrow above the nocking point, instead of below, BINGO!

I'd be interested in whether it's just the nock that's to the right, or does the BH hit to the right of the field tipped arrows as well? If the BH hits in the right place and the nock is right, see what happens if you shoot with the cock feather in.
