Ladder stand modifications
« on: July 25, 2017, 11:03:00 AM »
Any of you guys make mods to your ladder stands?

I have a few of the nicer summit stands that are pricy but ready to hunt.  I picked up a couple of the cheaper game winner ladders on clearance and after adding a bigger platform and lowering the platform about 8" it's going to work pretty good

Other than voiding their warranty?

Do people really send tree stands back for warranty work?

I don't really worry about the warranty.  More focused on making a better working product.  Quite a few ladder stands have the tiny platform so close to the seat I feel like I'm sitting at the kindergarten cafeteria table. Ha

I also have a couple small section of PVC attatched to each one to hold water or thermos or grunt tube etc

Figured some others would have some better ideas

I don't have any store bought. Mine are homemade, sorta. I haven't seen a decent quiet manufactured one yet.
I have half a dozen that guy in our club had his students make in shop class for cost of material. Made to fit my height. I added a step above the platform 6" for a foot rest. Also frabricated a bar a bit higher across from the seat to lean against for shooting and looking the other way. (Think heavy duty gun rest). They are a two man operation to set up but solid.
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

Whether purchased or home made, my ladder stands are basically hang on stands with ladders attached.  That way, they're very versatile with no bars restricting my movement at the knees or chest level.

I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I bolt the sections together. Keeps you from having those little squeaks break the early morning silence.

I also hunt out of ladder stands with one or two sections removed. Makes them easier to carry and place where I need them without help. Works for me on public land.   :campfire:
