Thermacell Earth Scent
« on: July 28, 2017, 09:48:00 AM »
No big deal here. We are in the process of getting refills for our Thermacells for the upcoming hunting season. They have what to me is a new Earth Scent. Anyone here have any experience with it. Would like to know if it is helpful or not. Regular Thermacell has been fine but if the Earthscent has advantages for hunting we would like to know. Thanks to anyone who responds.

I would think any chemical scent would have an adverse affect on deer. I don't imagine they used actual earth scent. If the old version works fine I'd just stick with it. If the wind is against you the deer are gonna smell you and the Thermacell.

I agree, Pat, but what I want to know is if people have had actual experience one way or the other. My thinking is simply that in one of those downwind situations has the earth scent, for example, made a deer stop or hesitate just long enough to get off a shot that otherwise might not happen. An advantage Ike that would be significant for me. Since both products are the same price it is not about cost, just effectiveness.

Ive used it a bit. Never seemed to harm anything other than mosquitos.

Edit* I should add that I can't detect any "chemical" scent when using it.. Smells like an earth scent cover scent.

Dan: I  believe they make a model just for that purpose. Scents have had only minor  benefits for me so I haven't been paying attention. Would love to have something like that for bear hunts. A nice cinnamon bun scent sounds good.

I have used both.     I see no difference in its effect on mosquitos.   Earth scent is definitely different than the original.    I buy whatever is  on the shelf or on sale.

A human smells like a human.  All other odors smell like a non human.

Dan Bree: Bacon is not so good in the Fall. Spring for sure.

KSDan: I guess the real question is does it help or not? Some things I use definitely help in minimizing deer's reaction to my scent. Other things seem to have the opposite effect even though they are supposed to be cover ups or attractants. I just don't want to buy something that hurts but would buy it if it has some benefit that I don't get from the original. I agree that you cannot eliminate human smell but you can minimize it.

It would be hard to know whether there are any benefits or not, just opinions since deer won't tell us. So we should probably buy the one WE prefer the smell of.

One thing I am fairly sure of is that chlorophyll seems to really shrink the size of my scent zone. Doesn't eliminate
my odor  but it would  be hard to convince me it doesn't help and I don't mean in a minor way. So my question still is does anyone have experiences that would indicate a benefit while using the earth scent. If not I'll just get a small pack at Wally World and see what happens.

I have used earth scent and regular. I think Id rather have the léast amount of scent emmanating from it.

I personally woudnt want any attracting scent leading directly to me.
