Anyone have experience with Tuktu EX by Cari-bow
« on: August 02, 2017, 01:02:00 PM »
I've been to Abe's site and have the generic info, but I would like to hear from someone who has owned or shot the Tuktu EX take down recurve. I really like Abe's long bows, just wondering about this 2 piece recurve: performance, eye appeal, quietness, ease of tuning, etc. Thank you in advance for your opinions. I realise that everyone is subject to their own opinion, just keep it nice. Thank you.    :campfire:

I was one of the last to shoot the pass around bow. I kept it for a week. As with all Abes bows it sure was pretty. My draw is 29 and the bow was very smooth. I think it was 62". The grip was very different than that of my Tuktu that I had made in 04 but the bow shot where you pointed it. Oh and did I say it was FAST. I told my son-in-law about it and he had one made.

Guess I missed out on the pass around. I've had 3 piece TD recurves but never a 2 piece recurve. Was it easy to take apart and put back together? Is it made with a sleeve like the Howard Hill TD longbows?

I have a one piece.  I have it for sale in the classifieds.

Its not for sale because its a bad bow.  I've had an issue with my neck and shoulders and I'm selling a few bows to get to a much lower poundage.

Its a shooter.  This is my 2nd caribow and I really like it.  I draw about 29" and this 56" bow is smooth out to that length.  Its fast.  Its beautiful.  Abe makes a very nice bow.  I don't think you can go wrong with one of his bows.  If I sell this one, I will probably get another one when I'm healed up a little.

Try this link Bill.  It should give you plenty of info.

His two piece is my favourite design of the 3 different take-down styles I've owned.

My wife thinks Abe is a marketing genius!  I shot the pass around and shortly after ordered a 2 piece featherhorn.  If i was a recurve guy i would have got thr tuktu.  It was fast, smooth drawing and quiet. I love the shape of the grip and the beavertail.

Abe uses the sleeve system similar to black widow and big jim.  Rock solid when assembled but easy to take apart.  The shape of the grip makes it repeatable and naturally pointing.

My first caribow will not be my last, and i would order the two piece again without hesitation.

Shot the pass-around and liked it so much I got my own. Fast, smooth shooter. Mine's 55# at my draw, 60" long and quiet.

Just purchased a 2015 Tuktu EX. 47@28, 60" take down. Should have the bow later this week. Any suggestions on lubricant for TD mechanism would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.   :archer2:

It is the carbon sleeve, correct?  Either bow string wax or toilet ring wax.  And it doesn't take much.

Thank you Hermon. I believe it is the carbon sleeve. Will know more when it arrives. Just knew I could count on a fellow TG member to help me out.

String wax is too sticky.
The toilet wax should be fine.

Thank you all for your input, especially Abe Penner of Cari-bow. The Tuktu EX TD recurve is an outstanding performer for sure. The biggest surprise to me was the bows ability to handle a diverse selection of arrow spines, weights and configurations. This has to be one of the most forgiving bow designs that I have ever come across. Light to heavy, wood to carbon, 125 grain points to 165 grain makes no difference. This bow shoots shoots them all and shoots them well. The only bow I can compare my Cari-bow Tuktu EX to is my Cari-bow "Peregrine" long bow, which I purchased earlier this month. To say I am happy with my Cari-bows is an understatement. If you haven't had the pleasure of shooting one of Abe's bows you owe it to yourself to seek one out. Cari-bow is the real deal for sure.   :clapper:    :clapper:    :clapper:
