Waterproofer on kuiu attack pants?
« on: August 11, 2017, 01:21:00 PM »
I just ordered a pair of kuiu attack pants for hunting in the mountains and western trips and was wondering if anyone has added a waterproofing spray to them to increase their already somewhat repellent properties. I walk through a ton of blue and huckleberry bushes and they are usually covered in dew in the mornings. Just wondered if a silicone type spray would hinder their breathability

I don't have that brand but have others with what they call DWR and there's no need(with what I walk through) and will probably cut down the pants ability to breathe significantly! But I know the kind of wet conditions you are talking about, but I would wear them a couple times and see if they don't work as is before you try treating them. Also Nikwax makes a wash to restore the DEAR to outdoor fabrics. Rust-Oleum makes a product called Never Wet designed for patio furniture fabrics that might be better than silicone and it's phenomenal for water proofing feathers too!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

If you are hunting somewhere that consistently soaks your attack pants...then you probably need rain pants! The attack pants will repel  somewhat and do dry quickly.  They are ok on a drizzly day. You won't stay dry in a downpour. They are completely synthetic so the silicon might even damage them.
I have two pair. The problem with attack pants...you never want to wear any other kind of pants! Except maybe the guide pants. Got a pair of those too.
