Tall Tines 16" vs 18" riser

For the longer draw guys that shoot a tall tines recurve 29-30"+ draw.  Do you recommend Brian's shorter riser with longer limbs or longer riser with shorter limbs.  What combo would you go with to make a 62" bow and why?  I talked to Brian yesterday and he recommended the 16" riser with the longer limbs, but I have also read some people here prefer his longer riser with the shorter limbs.  I like the idea of the longer riser for more mass weight, but I hate to suggest something other than what Brian recommended for me, Im sure that Brian knows what's best. What y'all think about it

I think you should listen to Brian. On a 60" bow I like the way the longer riser feels. On the longer bows I can't tell any difference.

All I know is that I am drawing just under 30" on my recurve with the long riser which is a 62" bow and like it quite a bit.  That being said, if I didn't need the longer site window, I would have gone with the short riser and either a 60" or 62" bow.

The long riser shorter limbs will be a touch faster

The short riser long limbs will be a touch smoother

I have the short riser long limbs on my Schafer and it shoots great

I draw 30.5" and Brian recommended short riser long limbs for a 62" recurve. It is very easy to draw and at 60# at my draw length it seems less. However, I think a long riser to make the same overall length  would have worked better for me for two reasons: the braced profile looks much better because of the way the limbs bend and I prefer a bow that starts to stack at my draw length. Next time I'd go with the 18" riser for a 62" amo.

I really like the long riser but I only draw 29" ...if I had a long draw like yours I'd go with Brian's recommendation. Or better yet go for a 64" bow with a long riser, I bet you would really like that unless you hunt from a blind much

Brian wants you to be happy with the bow and is nudging you toward the direction of improved draw feel is what it sounds like to me.  My draw is right in your range and I'll give you an example...I just got a new Wallace Mentor/ 62" 18" riser/ bow has working fades but the working limb in this configuration is relatively short.  I talked to Wes about it and at my 29ish draw I'm within the approved margin for the bow and I'm certainly not stressing it by any means BUT...would a 64" with the 18" riser be smoother?  Sure it would, however, I wanted to go with the shortest bow with that length riser that I could simply to save a few inches in the thick stuff.  Wes didn't have the option for a 16" riser, only a 15, and I wanted the mass and stability of the 18 for this particular bow, SO, I compromised.  Is my Wallace smooth?  Hell yes.  Would the 64 be smoother?  YUP. But the 62" for me is a little quicker and I was willing to trade a little less smooth on the last few inches for a couple more fps. That's me.  For what you're describing and to keep the bow as sweet as possible if it were me I'd do the 62"/16 or the 64"/18" and never look back.

Six of one half dozen of the other for me.   I draw a bit over 29" and can't tell much difference in the way the two perform.  I like a longer sight window so mine is 62" with a long riser medium limbs. If you don't need a longer sight window I'd probably listen to the man building them....if you do I think you'll still be happy.  Either way you're gonna get a shooter!

Thanks for the input fellas.   I do hunt out of ground blinds some but mostly ladder stands .  The reason I'm going with a tall tines instead of a Schafer is because I have read that both have pretty much all equal qualities except the tall tines has a little more in the FPS department.  i'm dropping a little over 10 pounds in weight because I have switched my form from more of a snap shooting style to hitting anchor and holding 3-5 seconds, really concentrating on my spot and letting her fly.  My last shafer I had built was #66 @ 29" I'm currently shooting a 62" blacktail that is #58 at my 29.5" draw and my arrow groups have improved greatly by dropping to 58 from 66.  So I'm wanting to go about #53-54 at 29 on the TT, I should be able to hold that thing at anchor comfortably while I concentrate on my spot.  so I don't think a little extra on the end of the draw will be a big issue with the shorter limbs and long riser.   I'll have to speak with Brian a few more times to figure out would choices etc. so we can have a few more discussions on his recommendations for my set up and I know whatever he decides is best for me end I will be happy with.  does anyone have any pictures of the strung profiles of each option?

I have the long riser and medium limbs with about the same draw length and love it.  

I also have the long riser long limb combination for a 64" bow and like it too.

Hard to go wrong with a Tall Tines.

I had both risers.  60" with the short riser and 62" with the longer. My draw is 29". I really couldn't tell the difference and both shot great!!

I use the 16" riser and 60"AMO with a 29" draw as Brian suggested because of the longer working limb. I've been very satisfied.

Had both.The longer riser was nice with the  overall 62.Smooth and quick.

I would go with the longer riser.
More mass weight as a main reason for it.
If you have both length made out of the same material the longer also is more dead in the hand.
With your draw length I would also go with the 64 inch length.
