Is anyone planning on going to the archery hunt on Blackbeard Island NWR (November 29 - December 1, 2007??
I am planning on making the trip and would like to find some others who might be "making the crossing" over to the island.

I will be paddling my sea kayak over there on tuesday and should be busy with the reds until dark or so      :D

Also, Apex Predator just had an awesome thread about the "cumberland island hunt" which is just an island or two up the coast from Blackbeard.
It would be great to meet up with some TRADGANG
folks.

scuse me, cumberland is Down the coast  :knothead:

Brent, I'm up in Beaufort SC. Where is the info on the Ga. dnr site? I might be interested. Michael
The old order is passing. Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals.

PS. My 12yo Daughter and I crushed the Reds and Trout On Sun.

Brent,

Although it sounds like a great idea, Trad Bowhunters of Georgia will be gathering at Oconee WMA that weekend.  If you don't do Blackbeard, come join the gang.

As the girl so nicely told me over the phone today, it is the U.S. fish and wildlife service, a federal organization that takes care of these barrier islands. They do an unbelievable job of helping the hunters and have even gathered huge amounts of firewood for the campers.

there is a link on the GON forum to the hunt the guys did in october under "traditional archery"

Oconee is beautiful. That should be a lot of fun. My sister's family lives in Washington and my daughter goes to college in milledgeville. there are a lot of deer up there. I hope to make a TBG hunt one day soon.

Cumberland is actually to the south of Blackbeard/Sapelo by about 30 miles.
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

any other fellow wood hurlers going after those "beach hogs/deer" next weekend? If so, stop on by the campsite with the sea kayak and the smell of coffee brewing. I will be over at the island for a day or two before the hunt for a little pre-scouting.
the deer arent real big, but there are a lot of them. There are some huge hogs too. the weather is unfortunately not supposed to be real cold.
P.S. look at Chris' post on the daily hunt stories

Sounds like a neat and fun hunt.  Bag limit:  5 deer of any sex/ unlimited hogs!  Wow.

Have to add it to my wish list for the future.

I found the info here:

The Blackbeard hunt brochure as pdf file:

Hope this helps
