Bear T/D limbs

Does anyone know the actual draw weights for bear brand limbs available for the B riser? I ordered a set of #1 limbs from 3rivers that (according to the 3rivers website) were supposed to be 42# for an A and 40# for a B riser. They shipped me limbs that are 40# for an A and 38# for a B. Just wondering if their website is incorrect or if they shipped the wrong limbs. I was really hoping to get the limbs that I ordered (#1 40# B riser), and was hoping to shoot the bow this weekend too. Just got home and opened the package. I called in to ask what was going on and the store is closed until Monday. Bummer!

Factory limbs are + or - 3 lbs over 2 lbs under

Yes that is typical with bear limbs.  Bear sells them as 40# but they could be 40-42 on an A or 38-40 on a B.   All fall within specs for 40# limbs.  Dino

My #3 limbs, which I got from Big Jim, were properly marked as 42# on and A riser and 40# on a B riser. I believe 3Rivers made a mistake. Not saying the limbs weights are dead on what they are marked. That is a horse of a different color.

Ok, I apparently just misunderstood I guess. The webpage implied they would be marked 40# B, and 42# A - these were marked 38# B and 40# A. The website doesn't list any limbs for sale that would be marked that way. It would have just been nice if the store would have listed the correct weights in their drop down box on the webpage for aging guys like me (not up on all the high tech). I haven't measured the actual draw weight yet. was just hoping for limbs marked 40# so they would meet the hunting requirements of a few states that I may never hunt        Main thing I guess is that they don't make limbs marked 40# draw #1's for the B riser so I guess I will start shooting! thanks for the help guys.

Bill - Maybe I would have had to buy #3's to get the limbs marked 40lb for the A riser? I will call them Monday to see what is going on. If nothing else maybe I can convince them to update their website to show the marked limb weights so others don't end up getting something different than what they ordered...

Personally I believe they shipped the wrong weight limbs. I would wait until you call Monday before opening the package. Tell them what you need so they can make it work for you.

MD- I have three set of limbs for my bear TD.  They will vary by 2 pounds.  If the -2 lbs bother you Three rivers will make it right.  But, I doubt it's a mistake that is how they are sold.  Last set I ordered from them I called and specifically asked for 45lbs/#3 limbs on a "B" riser and they open a few boxes to get what I wanted.  Great folks to deal with.

Thanks, Yooper! My bow came with a set of 55lb limbs so once I get my skills and strength up to par I should be fine to hunt with those instead of the 38s. I was just very confused at first since I am new to the Bear T/D, learning as I go. I had read elsewhere that the limbs can vary +/- 2 or 3 lbs but I assumed they would be marked 40 regardless of the actual weight. These limbs will be used for practicing my form, stumping, small game hunting and maybe a little bowfishing (if I can figure how to mount a reel) so they will likely do just fine for those things. Here in MI there is no minimum draw weight so I can use these without worrying about a conservation officer giving me any grief over it. Since my draw is 29 I may be able to take it to a shop and have them test the weight @29 and give me a receipt or something if I really need to use these limbs to hunt in a state with a minimum weight restriction. Hopefully I will get to a point of proficiency with the 55lbers! Thanks again guys for all the help. The people and tips on tradgang have been a great resource for me while transitioning from 30+ years of compound archery.

I checked the three Takedowns I have in stock and all are labeled with the standard draw weight (40, 45 or 50#) for B riser and +2 for the A riser.  I have not seen a riser labeled 38,40#, always 40, 42#.  Bear does the labeling, not 3 Rivers.  Most likely the box came with a 40# label and 3 Rivers just shipped it based on the box label.  Your limbs are not the norm.

Matt, minimum draw weight requirements are probly the least of your worries, LOL! My limbs are weight marked under the limb latches, out of sight. The local Warden will probly be more intregued with your "traditional" equipment, as opposed to the "latest & greatest" than he will over draw weight. At least that's been my experiance over the years.

Larry - You are 100% correct. I just looked at the box they came in from bear (hadn't thought to do that), it does say B=(60" 40#) and that A is 2# more right on the label! I was a tad upset at first but really I think these will be perfect for me.

Woodchucker - I agree fully, I need to learn how to shoot first, then worry about my hunting setup! Most likely if I do hunt a state with restrictions I will use the 55lb limbs so it isn't a big concern anyway. I am just really glad my shoulder has finally recovered enough (been two years) to sell the crossbow and get into instinctive traditional archery!
