I rattled in a beautiful 10 pt, while on the ground in my leafy suit. Wouldn't you know it, he came in so fast I couldn't turn for a shot!

The next buck decided to stay in the bushes and scope it out from a safe distance. All I saw were LONG tines when he turned his head.

Finally, a sassy 8 pt decided to sneak up on me right before dark. I think he took great satisfaction in stomping and blowing from right behind me before turning and running away. I wear a face mask, so I don't know if any of his spit got on my neck but he was THAT close!

This whitetail gig is a lot different than the elk I'm used to hunting, but there are still special moments in every hunt. Pretty sure we were designed to be hunters.

Someday I hope to pester elk, but I've been blessed with whitetail nearby for the 37 years I've hunted and they continue to humble me.

Yet the Gomer of the species does show up often enough to keep the freezer stocked.  God bless whitetails for being the perfect bow quarry.

Thanks Bisch! Yesterday was just the latest in a long string of "almosts". My wife keeps telling me to get back out there and make it happen, so my hopes are high!

Some of the best hunts are just memories of what we see, or I should say the privilege to see and be a part of.

That is the kind of hunt that makes you count the days until you can get out there again.

Wipe the spit off your neck and get back out there!

She's amazing! I am a very lucky man.

I went back out and rattled in another buck. This one was a little too little (minimum 13" inside spread, or a spike, here in TX). Then later I ran into a funky, twisty, eventually turned out to be,  spike! Only, I couldn't tell if he was a spike or not until he was halfway across my shooting lane. He spooked when I tried to slow draw, and wound up too far out for me to take the shot. SO close, yet again!
