How well does shoot through netting work with trad, bows?

Hey Folks,
I recently bought a spiffy new ground blind with jazzy little "shoot through" netting. I am sure it would be no big deal for compound bows to blast right through this stuff, but has anyone had any experience with shooting through with a recurve or longbow.
Just wondering if anyone had tried it and what the result was.

I've never had a problem with it out of a Double Bull blind, don't know about other brands, but most likely not a problem with them either.

It is not a problem at all,  I have several commercial blinds. Mike Palmer, makes his own, he and his wife have no problems.

I must admit that I had my reservations until one slow day I shot at a squirrel through the net, the only reasaon I missed was I was so busy trying to see what the arrow was doing as it passed through the netting!

I killed a nice pig shooting through the netting on my Easton Blind.  I don't give it a second thought now.

I would have agreed with the two above posts, had I not experienced different results myself. If your bow is center or past center on the shelf the arrow has mimimum paradox, I've not had a problem with that type, however if its a less than center bow it can and has with me deflected the arrow way off target. So in my opinion, results will depend on the type of bow.

I have considered setting it up in the yard and doing some practice, but after I poke holes in it shooting at targets I guess it would be a moot point.

Bob, thanks for your heads-up on non-center shot bows. I will stick to my center-shots in the blind.

Anyone else have anything to add?

My wife got me one of those easton blinds.It's the big one with the center hubs,anyway I just had to know so I shot at my target thru it admittedly wondering at first.seemed fine so I tried it agian and ended up puttin the arrow thru the first hole.Being the skeptic that I am I shot another and made sure to put another hole in the screen....holes from this point on will go along with the holes in the critter's I get lucky enuff to shoot at thru the screen.

Try it yourself with confidence that it doesn,t matter and when ya nail the bull you'll be extra confident come crunch time and whats one or even 2 hole's for the extra confidence

I shot a buck out of my double bull and had no problem. One thing though it is good to practice shooting through netting to help you focus past the net itself. I have a scrap piece hung up in the cellar that i shoot through while I'm seated just to get the practice.

I first used them over in Africa and they worked great . But as Stoneknife says they are a little tricky getting used to . I had to work at looking past the netting but it didn't take much time though . Once you shoot through the netting you will gain more confidence on your next shot , Fred

Actually, trad bows tend to work better than compounds simply because most trad guys use cut on contact broadheads.  Them things go through the netting like it's not even there as opposed to a mechanical head from a compound.  So I guess it's really not a trad compound thing rather a broadhead thing.  

The trick is to make sure you get it through the screen and not the bottom of the window.

I hunt out of pop ups alot. I tend to have a hard time picking a spot to bare down on thru the net. I cut a baseball sized hole in mine where I expect to shoot. you will be suprized how big an area you can cover by changing the angle of attack.

Dave, I won't ask, if your not tellin'.

I think I will shoot a few practice arrows just to make myself feel better. As I looked closer, in addition to the net there seems to be a "membrane" of sorts. I guess it is supposed to help keep the deer from scenting the hunter. I will poke a few holes, see how things do, then hunt with a clear mind about the performance.

Shoot a few practice shots to give you the confidence.
 I have no trouble at all with the DB nets.
  Field points don't work well, but broadheads are fine.

Pete is right, Field points don't work very well.But broad heads shoot great.

I was skeptical to until Guru and I tried it.Wow the arrows never deflected at all, We shot through the netting 13 times while he was here hunting and I he also had his game tracker on and the string worked great through the netting.

Give it a try I think you will be impressed.

But seriously, I've never used one but I' quessing the string just runs completly off the spool?

I use an Ameristep Penthouse blind.  I've shot several critters from it (and a few misses), and never had a problem.  I've shot 2 blade and 3 blade broadheads through it, plus a few Ace blunts.  FWIW, my bow isn't cut past center, and accuracy was good enough to double lung a squirrel a week or so ago (with a blunt).

Don't worry about taking a few practice shots--the holes left are very small and won't hurt anything.  I've got umpteen holes in my netting, and the critters still don't notice.  

Shooting from a blind can mess with your depth perception, and it will seem to get dark a little quicker from the inside, and your visibility can be limited.  Those are the only negatives I know of.

Like Tracy said we shot a lot thru the nets...here's a doe I shot at 9 yds...thru the net with string tracker attached(we were really waiting for turkeys)....

out of my doublebull mesh.  Used cedar arrow and
5 1/2 inch high back feathers.  I hit right where
I wanted to. Buck ran less than 15 yrds and died
in my sight. allen
