Arrow rest location?
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:03:00 AM »
When laying out a self-bow , what would be the correct location for an arrow rest in relation to the centre of the bow?
Does it vary depending on the style of bow? e.g. longbow, flatbow, pyramid bow etc.

Also, what do you guys use for knock locators? (I shoot 3 under).

You can use 1 1/4" above center to start, and find where the bow feels the best. I like to use 3/8" to 1/2" above square for a knocking point.

What Dano said!    I've been puting the handle in the center of my bows lately and never shape the handle until the bow has been shot. It's always the last thing I do before finish sanding and sealing.
When making the handle, I like a bulbous handle as per Dean Torges. That puts the arrow pass about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" above center and like Dano the string nock about 3/8" above square, and depending on the bow someitmes a tad lower. I always nock the arrow on top of the nocking point...a habit I got into long ago and haven't changed.   Pat
