« on: November 07, 2007, 10:24:00 AM »
I got a new grand river longbow with pau ferro riser, very light colored red elm limbs and a birdseye maple riser overlay, with red and black riser accents( like the red and black stripes in a black widow), I will be using it for deer, squirrel, and rabbit hunting ths year, what should I name it?

A bow usually needs to earn a name and when that happens you'll know what it is.

I agree with Vermonster, a name should "happen" or be one that is meaningful to you, not somebody else.  If nothing comes to mind just yet, I bet it will after the bow and you have bonded and spent some time in the woods together!...Dave

How about "my bow"?  Or maybe "the grand river".

How about "killer". Jeremiah sounds good too. I love that movie.

Kind of sounds like the feathers on a redtailed hawk, so maybe you could call it hawk, or something like that.  Red-tailed hawks have always been kind of lucky for me.

Some of my bows are named in the process of making them, while some get their name in the field.

My bow name and my tradgang name are the same - the traslation of Can Hahaka is "plenty Limbs" - Can Hahaka was a Lakota Sioux warrior that fought at both the battle of little bighorn and at wounded knee. Maybe you can find something from your past or from a passion. It only has to serve you - not others.
