Black glass
« on: December 25, 2017, 04:54:00 PM »
Happy holidays, tradgang.
Winter planning for a bow is going full steam, and I'm planning on building a bow with black glass, and I wanted your opinion on what woods go well with black glass limbs and black phenolic accents: shedua, bubinga, ebiara, walnut, etc. I'm looking for woods I can buy from bingham's, and I'm not against buying the laminated stuff they have.

Just about everything looks good with black glass. I really like walnut or a nice piece of zircote. If you want more contrast a lighter riser like maple with a black leather or beaver tail grip looks great.

Both of the bows in my signature have black glass (which I love, by the way). The Lynx has a cocobolo and phenolic riser and overlays and the Pika has a bocote and phenolic riser and overlays. Both of them look fantastic!!

I'm working up one (just started) for a TradGang'er that has Cocobolo/Osage riser, Cocobolo/Osage/Sheep horn overlays with black glass limbs. Should look pretty dang sweet!

I am partial to zebrawood... Bocote and cocobolo, too, but I can't get my hand on any.

I like all black. My black glass Wesley Special has glass black limbs with black ebony riser and black Cape Buffalo limb tips. The only non black is the burgundy colored leather grip.

I do too. The bocote on my new Pika is so dark, it almost looks black and I love it!!

I used to think black glass was boring, but I like it now.  It goes with everything, so pick the wood you like.

Yeah, PECO, it's sort of like a beautiful girl in the proverbial little black dress. She looks so good, you are proud to take her anywhere.
