Has anyone had a chance to shoot the Bear Static K-5 yet?  It looks interesting.

Hadn't heard of it.  Pictures anywhere?

I think you mean the new K-4, but I'm wondering the same thing. That bow looks sweet.

Really, if there is anyone here that shoots a static recurve that could offer some insight on it's performance as compared to a working limb design, that would be great.

I've always been interested in statics, but they are not something you run across often enough to just try out.

Had a look in the new 3River's catalog. Pretty neat for what is shown.

Yep k-4.  I must have been a little excited haha.  It's on the bear archery site.

Yes, I picked one up last week. I'd post some pictures but my blood pressure rises quickly struggling with Imgur

Great shooting little bow and the quality and finish, at least on the one that I have, is perfect. 45@28 and on my scale it's 43@28, 48@30 with my 30" draw.

Interesting little bow, not speedy but not a dog either. Not recommended for fastflight but I'm running a SBD D-10 string on it. Sounds like a lot of guys shooting the vintage originals have been running low stretch strings with no issues. The way I see it, if a 65 year old bow can handle it, the modern version should too.

If not, it'll be an expensive lesson    :nono:

That d10 should have some b55 pads on huh? That probably helps.

Do you notice a difference with that D10 string over D97?

Don't mean to hijack this thread. Back to the k-4...how's the draw? Smooth? Did you check for stacking? I shoot. 29" draw. I would think those static tips would do a really good job at keeping a smooth draw

Yes running with loops padded with B-50.

Tony, I'm not a coffee drinker so that might be part of my problem   :biglaugh:

I like everything about the K4 except that odd overlay on the back of the handle.  Maybe I'm missing something having not seen or handled one.  Did the original K4 have that overlay?

Yes, they have the overlay and if I could post a pic you could see it. Bear is doing a leather wrap on the grip, which isn't shown in the pic in their catalog, that's pretty nice. The wrap covers most of the "tongue depresser" as it's been called. And yes it was on the original. The leather grip is nothing like the crappy wrap they do on the 59 reissue, actually it's quite well done and I see no reason to redo it like I had to on my 59'er.

Looks like a good shooter but yes the first thing I would do is introduce that overlay to my sander! Then a beavertail. Hope it does well for Bear then they might venture into some more clear glass versions   :bigsmyl:

Just saw one of these today. It looks really interesting. Hopefully there will be one in Kalamazoo to take for a test drive.

Looks interesting and have seen some pics on Facebook. I am not found of that grip overlay. Needs a wrap to hide it.

Have not handled one yet, but they sure look sweet and awesome through back, like the 59 kodiak.  Have talked with few guy who purchased the K4 and love it, and very impressed with it.
