Anybody else shooting RER bows?
« on: January 16, 2018, 12:27:00 PM »
I've been on the hybrid longbow train for the last several years. Never cared much for recurves after trying a few. But I got the itch for something new and came across the XR by RER Bows. I love the feel of the static tips, the slim riser, and fairly low grip. I have two now and have settled on them as my "go to" rigs. I may sell my heavier one soon and replace it with one a few pounds lighter.

Any of you guys shooting an XR or Retro? Post up some pics and tell me how you like yours?

I have an RER Arroyo that Kevin built in 2012 and I was fortunate enough to take a nice buck with it this year with a 12 yard shot on the ground.
I had 1/4 Away here post pics of mine with the buck and it's on the first or second page of the Pow Wow called the "Moose antler Buck the good the bad and the ugly"!
The Arroyo I used is Bocote riser and limb veneers with boo cores and one of Kevin's bows.
I traded a fella a Fox longbow for it and when I got the RER it was only a month or so old and still as mint as the day I received it.
It is 50#@28" and some of the prettiest Bocote I ever seen!

They've been my go to bows for a number of years now. Currently I'm shooting a 52# Vital. It's taken a lot of game but still probably hasn't caught up to my LX takedown longbow which I do still also hunt with.
I also have a beautiful XR recurve that I once foolishly sold, then got lucky and ended up buying it back.  None of the three are going anywhere in the future.

I have a retro that is certainly in my top couple of "go to" bows.  If you like light weight 50 style bows you can't beat the retro.  Sorry, no picture posting for me.
Enjoy the hunt!  - Mitch

Good to hear I'm not the only one. I'd sure like to try one of those Retros, and get a set of longbow limbs for my XR riser.

That's an AWESOME buck and story Keefer! Thanks for sharing that with us. From what I can see, that's a super nice looking bow too!   :)

I have had several over the years, Kevin made a great bow. They were all quick with great fit and finish. I have not shot or seen one from the new bowyers.

My wife and I both have XR’s.  She also has a one piece Vortex longbow, and my longbow is a 2-pieces takedown which was Kevin’s backup at the time.  All were made by Kevin, and my wife had new, heavier limbs made by the new owners, Ike and Chester.

Those Vortex bows look like a great longbow. I will probably ask Ike and Chester to make a new set of limbs for my XR this year.

I have an LXR - longbow and recurve limbs for the same riser. Got Kevin's last waterfall elm for limb veneers and riser and a beautiful piece of cocobolo to go with the elm for the cresent riser. Always turns heads when I take it to a shoot.

Love the light and dark contrast. I bet it shoots good too!

The woods are Waterfall Ash and Black Macassar.  Yes, it is a beautiful bow....every time we go to a 3D shoot, she always gets comments how great it looks.
