broken string hand
« on: February 28, 2018, 02:40:00 AM »
i have broken the ring finger metacarpal on my string hand and won't have a medium term diagnosis until the end of the week when it gets re-xrayed. chances are it'll be a cast for a few weeks or more.

anyone ever rigged up something to use a release in this situation? i'm hoping i'll have use of my index and middle finger with the cast so a trigger release might be off use? perhaps on a strap to my elbow so there is no pressure on my hand.

any other solutions?

i would normally just lay off the hunting but the deer rut is here in about 6 weeks so i want to come up with a way of shooting in case the cast is still on by then.

Cool. Looks like something I can adapt to use with a cast. Maybe the addition of an elbow strap if needed.

“Other solutions.”  Switch hands.  It really shouldn't be that difficult to hold the bow in the hand with the broken finger.  It will do you a lot of good to learn to shoot with your off hand.  Hopefully, your string finger will recover completely, and you will then have the option in the future of shooting with either hand, which could come in handy at times.  It will seem awkward at first, but you will come to like the flexibility, broken finger or not.  Shooting both right and left handed is the best way to avoid the shoulder injuries that cut some of our archery careers short.
