Is this good?
« on: March 10, 2007, 10:38:00 PM »
Ive been shooting 7 arrows a set for a couple hours when I remember my form I can put 6 out of the 7 arrows in the vitals of my deer target out to 25 yards. Is there pretty good shooting for trad gear? I know with a compound people would say that's not very good shooting. If this is good shooting can I expect to get better as I keep shooting and progress through the months?

2Blade,

If you can put yer arrow in the kill zone... then yea... its a good shot.  (Be comfortable with that.     )

But... as far as far as, "Can you expect to get better as you keep shooting through the months."  The answer is as long as you concentrate on your form and consistency... then "Yes... You are definitely going to get better."

I'm still new to shooting Traditional equipment and (1) one year ago, I was really feeling pretty good about my abilities and shot placement.  Now... I look back and am amazed at how much I have improved since that time.  To be honest... I guess I never thought I would get as good as I am today.  (Which doesn't say a whole lot for me...     )  But... the ability for GREAT accuracy with Traditional equipment is there.  Even more so than I ever gave Traditional equipment its due credit!

Just simply strive to make your next shot better than your last one!   :archer:

Take care!

Donnie

I am certainly no expert but the first arrow is the one that counts.  if you can put your first arrow in the kill zone,  thants great.  when I shoot I start at my target and walk away.  turn and shoot at varying distance.  and each shot I think this is the one.

Your ability is mostly limited by your dedication.  The more you shoot and work on proper form the better you will shoot.  I found that if I back up 30-35 yards and work on keeping them in the target when I move back up to 15-20 yards my shots are better. (at least for that session).

My form is back but I have more trouble stump shooting then I do shooting a deer target. In low light when I cannot pick a spot I just stare behind my targets shoulder and shoot and im in the lung area. When I stump shoot I usualy shoot trees more then anything because they got so many spots to pick and I seem to always shoot off. BUT today I was 25yards from a small tree about 4 inches wide and drilled it I cant figure it out! What am I doing wrong?

I always judge myself by my first shot.  if the first shot is where you want it then for hunting id say thats where you want to be.

You probably hit the deer target regularly because you practice on it regularly.  Muscle memory takes over because you've "made the shot before."  Now just get out and practice more walking around the woods stump shooting and the same thing will happen!

I shoot about a hour every day from all yardages from 35yd to 10yd. Most shots are from 25yd. And, I kinda keep track of my percentages at all the yardages. But, the most important percentage, the one I really pay attention to is at what distance can I always keep my first arrow of the day into the deers vital area. I can keep about 85% of all of my arrows into a 9in. paper plate at 35yds. But, I can only guarentee to keep my first arrow into that same paper plate 100% of the time from about 23yd. Therefore my maximum hunting distance is 23yd. If a great opportunity to take a nice buck at 25yds comes along one day, I will know that I may not be able to take the shot.

Now when you say paper plate do you draw a circle in the middle or just shoot for the whole plate?
