Need some help with arrow tuning (pic)
« on: March 13, 2007, 06:05:00 PM »

I normally use 200grain points and was planning on using a 200 grain Snuffer this year. I bareshafted my arrows and they turned up weak (I'm Left Handed remember, so arrow left is weak). They should be grouping right together becuase I have some duck tape wrapped around the back of my bareshaft that weighs the same as the 4 vanes on the back of my arrow. My bareshaft was hitting about where you see the red X in this pic. I put on a 125 grain point and cut one inch off the shaft. I also stiffened up my plunger pressure and moved it out some. This pic is where the arrows now group. I would like some advice on what you think I should do? Should I switch broadheads, or is there another way? Perfect arrow flight is very important to me, so I'll change if I have to. Thanks,
Craig

Sounds like you made more than one change at a time. Only one change at a time is recomended. Check out the segment about tuning on OL Adcocks site.

Jerry,
No, I bareshafted it with the 125grain point BEFORE I cut the inch off. Thanks,
Craig

When you say you bareshaft tuned with a 125 grain point after you cut an inch off I think you should stay with that 200 grain tip because you made the arrow stiffer when you cut it. Also Jerry is right make one move at a time.

deerslayer,
I shot it with the 125 grain tip BEFORE I cut the inch off and AFTER I cut the inch off. I've done it both ways. I cut it because the arrows were hitting to the left, which for a lefty means weak.As you can see, they still are a little. Thanks,
Craig

Craig, you also mentioned stiffening your plunger, that is why I say one change at a time. I understood the 125 point and all. Every little thing you do makes a difference. Just trying to help.

Jerry,
Thanks,
I guess I worded my original post incorrectly, sorry. I moved out the plunger first thing, too weak. I then stiffened the plunger, again too weak. At this point I put on the 125 grain point. Still too weak. I cut off the shaft and the result is what you see in the picture.
BTW I ended up needing to cut another 1/4" off the shaft to make it fly right. My bareshaft now hits dead on with perfect alignment at 40 yards. Thanks for the help everyone!
