Great question, I look forward to some answers.

Byron Furguson says ..."it's better to shoot a few shots with great focus, then many shots with poor focus".....

have a good day, HH

I shoot every day if at all possible. Some times for just a few minutes, sometimes for an hour or more. Seems like anymore its all I want to do. I think there is something wrong with me!!!

Every day after work, anywhere from 30 min. to one hour. On weekends, several times a day. I am blessed with a 5 acre backyard so I get to practice at all sorts of distances.--Bone

Daily -- About 30-50 arrows per day.  Usually go to at least one 3-D shoot on weekends.

I usually shoot 3 days a week, every other day, if I can. Normally between 100 - 150 arrows. Work and time does not let me shoot every day, but for me, shooting that many arrows a day, it's best to take a day off in between and let the muscles take a break. As mentioned above, it is about quality practice not quantity.
Someday you and I will take the Great Hart by our own skill alone, and with an arrow. And then the Little Gods of the Woods will chuckle and rub their hands and say, "Look, Brothers. An Archer! The Old Times are not altogether gone!"

Funny you should mention that...

From an old habit of shooting my "former" bow... (a wheelie) I was accustomed to shooting anywhere from 60 to 100 arrows a day, and it wasn't uncommon for me to shoot close to 200 arrows a day on a weekend.  So... when I picked up my recurve... I just continued to practice in this manner.  (I now know that this wasn't such a good idea... at least it wasn't for ME!)

I was injured not too long ago... and wasn't able to shoot for about a week.  When I picked the bow back up... I was only able to shoot around (5) five arrows before I was too tired to shoot anymore.  BUT!... those (5) five arrows where some of the best arrows that I have shot!  Then one day... I read somewhere that Byron Ferguson made the comment that it wasn't so much "Quantity" that makes a better archer... rather its "Quality".  (Paraphrased... and also eluding to what HumbleHunter quoted.)

I found that after about 40 or so arrows... I don't concentrate as much... and my form begins to slip.  So... I now only shoot about 10 or 20 arrows in the evening... (on weekdays, after work,) and maybe 3 sets of 20 arrows (total of 60) a day on the weekends.  Since I have been doing this... I have found a lot more enjoyment in my shooting... and my skills have gone through the roof!

Take care!

Donnie

I think we all go through a period of wanting to fling as many arrows as possible.  Back when I started and for some time thereafter I would shoot until I couldn't pull the string anymore.  The more I shot, the worse my shooting became on a given day.  The day came when I decided I actually wanted to hunt with a bow and my shooting ability just didn't measure up to my feeling of responsibility to any game animal.  I started using the mindset that I only had one arrow and one shot to make good.  I approached each shot as though it was the only one I would make that day.  I might shoot five times or a hundred but the minute I felt my concentration slipping I quit shooting.  I'm still no Byron Ferguson and never will be but I am confident of putting an arrow into the vitals of a deer at 20 yards.

I'm lucky and have a "range" out back that lets me shoot to 20 yards or so.  I try to get out there every day, weather permitting.  Like I said, I shoot as long as I can maintain concentration and no longer.  Works for me.

I just began shooting this spring and I must admit I am hooked! I shoot as much and as often as I can. I find that shooting at targets I will ebb and flow from tight groups (shooting 4 arrows) to spreading them all over the target to tight groups, shooting 100+/- arrows in a session. I really prefer stump shooting though, I bring two blunt arrows (one spare in case I break one)and I feel like each shot is the only shot, and at various ranges, and I get to practice walking quietly while I'm at it.

I usually try to shoot every day, Lately I haven't. When I do shoot it is usually about a dozen shots. Just before hunting season I limit my sessions to one shot at a 3D deer target from my front porch which is about as high as I put my stands. Each day I move the 3D deer so every shot is differant and I try to place it so it's never a "gimme" shot.
When I first got my Treadway bow I was shooting 30 to 50 arrows a day almost every day. After that year I figured conservitively that I had shot 10,000 shots from that bow.
It's not how many shots you take each day but how well you shoot it!   Pat

I shoot for about an hour every afternoon.  However, I shoot one arrow at a time, then pull, etc.  I recently dropped down to 45lbs (48 at my draw), and now it seems like I can shoot as long as I want without getting too tired.

I've been shooting a NFAA 300 round everyday at lunchtime at the Base Archery Range. It is really helping me get consistant. Although it has been in the mid 90s the last week or so. Starting to get too hot to shoot at midday.

I've got floodlights on the back of the house and can shoot in the cool of the evening.

Hey, Bone, noticed you are from Shreveport.  I live in Haughton.  Do you know John Willis?  Let's get together some time.
