Backyard stump shooters!
« on: May 20, 2007, 11:51:00 PM »
Any backyard stump shooters out there? I'm sure there are, some with a much larger yard than mine too. That has been how I have been shooting for the last while. I have a mound of carpet that resembles a hog, and some plastic milk jugs here and there.

Tempting!

I have been known to give out dandylions fits. Helps if I need to shoot a snake! I also pin a burlap turkey target to my block & just pretend. Frank

I shoot dandelions and weeds sticking up in the yard. The dog's tennis balls. Then to the woods and I'll shoot at anything that sticks out to offer a target. Stumps back there are pretty hard, learned that the hard way.

I belong to a group of avid stump shooters who shoot year 'round in Idaho and Montana.  Last 3-D we went to in Montana we shot the first 1/2 of the course and then gave it up and shot the rest of the day at stumps.  Stump quality was excellent.  Mostly Doug Fir cut years ago.  Hard knots and heavy duff take a tole.  Winter is a great time to shoot stumps as blow throughs or misses can be tracked in the snow.  We find that a flourescent yellow shows up best if arrows are not too deep in the white stuff.  My group did an interesting test of FERR-L-TITE and POWER BOND for Bohning a few winters back on a winter stump shoot near Dillon, Mt.  After awhile you get to "know your stumps" but sometimes blow-ups are spectacular.   Gives a good reason to make more arrows.    Bow'narrow
no clue how to do this
