split fingers for gap shooting...good?...bad?
« on: September 25, 2007, 12:29:00 PM »
i have been trying the gap method and am shooting better than ever.  a deer sized target is in real trouble under 30 yards now!  my only question is that i use split fingers and anchor in the corner of my mouth and i have never seen a gap shooter do this.  i have always seen 3 under or a higher cheekbone anchor.  will i run into any problems using this in the future?  thanks for any info!

I believe that Larry Yien shoots that way. He's not too bad. (three time IFAA Longbow World Champ).

I use a split finger and anchor at the corner of my mouth.  I usually shoot instinctive but I normally gap at 25 yards and beyond.  I have not noticed any problems with hitting the target.  In fact, I have been experimenting with gap shooting at shorter distances with good results.

You shouldn't run into any problems at all.

Your Point On distance will usually increase by going from 3 under to split finger and if you're deadly at 30yrds. and under you're doing great.

My primary aiming techinique is Gap which has nearly become totally Instinctive and I shoot split finger with my index finger in the corner of my mouth and my Point On distance is at 90yrds.

index finger? that pretty low and you got one  heck of a point on! i have been using middle finger/corner mouth and have about a 35 yard point on.  thats with 48 lbs and 650 gr arrows though... not bad and thanks for the info!
