finger pinch
« on: November 03, 2007, 05:43:00 PM »
Been watching and reading here for a while.  Started the Trad thing about six months ago.  Have a couple Bear Kodiak Hunters, one 45 and one 50.  Both are 60 inches.  I have picked up the basics and am having some success in consistent shooting.  I have a problem though.  The nocks are pinching the inside of my index finger right at the edge of my finger nail.  I have tried tabs and gloves, settled on the glove.  I shoot split finger.  The pinch really is not an issue for short term shooting.  However, after moderate shooting, it starts to cause issues with my shooting.

Any thougths?

Try consciously spreading your index/middle fingers a bit more.  Just as you have to develop muscles to draw the bow, you must also develop the strength in your fingers to not pinch the arrow.  Alternative choices are to try nocking the arrow above the nockset or going three-under.  Don't ask me why nocking above the nockset makes a difference but it does for me.

I had the same problem with the index finger until I started pulling a little less with my index
finger and a little more with the middle finger.

2 things. Make sure you have good protection with a good leather glove.Try Shultz or Hills gloves. #2 if your elbow is too high up you will be pivoting the fingers so that there will be more force on the index finger crushing against the arrow. Lower the elbow a bit and it will shift putting more of the weight on the last two fingers.
