Tuning question?

I'm trying to tune a 1998 Bighorn ramhunter 64" 56#@28". I draw 28" and my arrows are cut to 29".I've been shooting cedars that spine from 50 to 60 with 125gr and 145gr heads.I shoot lefty and keep on getting a right tear thru paper about an inch or so with 145gr points and 125gr points at 6ft. (weak)! Even tried some lam birch 60-65 same results. Is it me?

I really want to shoot 145 or 160gr heads so what spine arrows do I need?

I think you need more spine on that shaft if you want to keep using those heads.

It could be you. Are you used to shooting a longbow grip?  What is your brace hgt set at?

Those 60/65's should work out of that bow at that length.

Mine is 63# at my 27" draw.  I shoot 65/70's cut 28 1/4 with 160 heads.

 Are you shooting a Ramhunter? BH is 7 1/4. I use to shoot this bow more but lately been shooting a morrison dakota and want to shoot wood arrows again so I'm tuning it again thru paper. I think I'm going to put it on a scale to see what it weights at my draw lenght.
 The tear is consistant. And I do have a piece of leather under the side plate and shelf maybe I'll remove the piece under the side plate.

At 6ft. from the paper there's a good chance that the arrow is still oscillating as it recovers from paradox. Some trad shooters can successfully paper tune but most prefer the bareshaft method and it is what I use. A good way to see if it paradox causing that particular tear would be to move back another 6ft. or so and see if the tear changes in any way.

Yes it's a Ramhunter.  7 1/4 should be fine.  Mine is set a twist above 7 3/8.  Sometimes if you've been shooting something with a deep locator you'll tend to torque a straighter grip at the release until you get used to it.

I'm not one for paper tuning as I prefer O.L.'s method.  Six feet does seem pretty close.  I wouldn't think it'd take much to see a slight tear like that at that distance.

Well it weights in at 56# @ 28". Amazing after 8years. Took the side plate leather off and replaced it with seal skin with nothing behind it and still have the same tear even when I move back to 20 ft. Thats with fletched and bareshaft (bareshaft being worse). Even tried 100gr point on 57# cedar,same tear.

I think I'll shoot it for awhile and give up on paper testing till I bareshaft test more outside. And pickup some 65/70 in the mean time.

How tight are the nocks, if they are really tight on the string you would get a nock right problem for a lefty.
