very low spined arrows

i bought my wife a long bow fr Cristmas,  its 54inches long and is at 25# at her draw.  i am looking for some good carbon or safetyglass arrows that have screw in inserts in them,  all i have found are the ones that have a feild tip glued on that would come off to easy.  anyone have any ideas on arrows?

I am no expert by any means , but I would think that you would need some Easton Redline 600's or maybe a Epic 600. These are .600 spine which would be what ya need. Keep them full length and put some weight up front to keep them as weak as possible. If you are lucky enough to get them weak enough then you can start trimming the length and /or dropping the point weight. You may not be able to get a carbon arrow that is weak enough for 25lbs of draw ???

Another option might be to go to the Carbon Express website"   www.carbonexpressarrows.com  and click on the tab  "Youth Arrows".  There are a couple good choices there, too...

My wife has about the same draw weight at her 25 inch draw.The 600's will be way too stiff even full length unless you really load the tip weight.Then she won't have very good cast shooting over 20 grains per pound.

Lancasters has Beman ICS Energy or Easton Redline in 780 spine.They are the same shaft with different tollerences..006 is plenty straight for 30 yards and under.You have to use half-out inserts to use screw in tips.Leave them full length to start and try 125 tips.

They will also sell less than a half dozen to try and the components to match.

According to draw lenght....25#'s , your looking at shafts in the .1000 deflection range to obtain proper spine.

told you I was no expert. I did not know that carbon was available in .780 and .1000 spines. All I had seen in the local shops were the .600 epic and redlines. Glad we got smarter folks on here than me !

Where can you get.1000 deflection carbon? I was told that they weren't made anymore unless you go to a Nano at $289 a dozen.

I didn't think the cheap Carbon Flash was good enough to even consider.

Most of the "youth" carbon offering are for youth compounds...too stiff for lighter bows and shorter draw lengths...most are in the .500-550 deflection range


In cheaper carbon shafts, check out Beman Carbon Flash shafts...there available in .1000 deflection for around $25 a doz. and I believe ACC's can still be had as weak as 1.500 deflection....and yes they are good enough! But even at 25# draw, even 1000's may need to be left full lenght.

Really when high deflection shafts are needed...Aluminums are the way to go...heres Easton's recommendations for kids and light bows....and Easton charts are known to be on the stiff side.

Based on a 26'' draw lenght :

16-20#s    1413  2.036 deflection
           1416  1.684 deflection
20-24#s    1416  1.684 deflection

24-28      1514  1.379 " "

28-32      1516  1.403  "   "

Kids and ladys having to shoot waay too stiff arrows or worse Dad or hubby's handmedowns is a pet peeve of mine....not having arrows in the ballpark of correct spine really isn't gving them a chance.

Rod is right.  My wife is an excellent barebow shooter, and shoots longbows at her 24" draw length.  On her 64" 37# @ 28" Chaparral, she shoots 1516 or 1616 Eastons with NIBB target points. With her 40# 64" Dryad longbow, she shoots only 1616 Easton, or sitka spruce & POC wood, spined 25-30, and cut to 26", with a 70g point.
There is no way she can work with carbon at those light weights, and short draw length, and shoot at the distances required in 3-D & also field shooting.  Bill G.

Never tried the Carbon Flash.Just going by what someone told me.Glad to hear they are an option.

The rep I talked to at Lancasters told me that .780 is as low as they carry in the Redline or Beman ICS Energy.If I am not mistaken he said they aren't made anymore.

Yeah sadly Easton dropped the 1000's...Trish used to shoot both Redlines and Engerys and when they became unavailable and with IBO requireing screw in points(which were a pain to make!) she went to Aluminu

My gf shoots the 780's full length with outsert and 100gr screw in tips.  Her bow is 32# @28 but she is only drawing about 25-26". They are around 330gr total weight. They bareshaft really well. Leave them long and they might work. Its easier to put them together like that too.

I sometimes shoot the youth arrows myself, shooting my 45 and 50#, a great inexpensive little setup
