Look up the the NFAA and then go to the state of VA, they will show you a listing of bow clubs in the state. I think there was a club in your home town area. VA is the best state for the number of clubs and I am sure you will be able to connect with several other traditional hunters / shooters in the area for help...
Now for anyone new to shooting I suggest the following tips
1. start close to the target 10 yards
2. work on form
a. make sure you come to a good ancor point each time
B. good solid stance
c. good follow thru upon release ( keep thje bow arm up till you see the arrow hit the target.)
d. most key- pick a spot you want to hit or aim small miss small

See if you can order, "Archery Steps To Success," by Kathleen Haywood and Catherine Lewis. (internet search for it)
It is written as a college course in archery, by excellent coaches.
