Tab shooting question

I have been using a duraglove for the past year and like it just fine, but I'm kind of messing with a tab (3Rivers cordovan) of late and I have some questions for you tab shooters.

The tab is nice and slick, so the release seems to be pretty crisp. It's got a second layer of leather on it that I'm not sure I like. It seems to get in the way at times when I'm trying to put tab to string. The info with the tab says that can be trimmed off, and I'm thinking about doing that.

Do those of you who have tried this type of tab leave the second layer of leather or trim it? I also thought about barge cementing it to the cordovan so it's not flopping around. What do you guys think about that? Would it make the tab too stiff once it dried?

Just kind of an experiment. At this point, I still prefer the glove.

I shot a glove for years and this past year switched to a tab. I have the same one you have, I trimmed the second layer off and removed the separator and love it. I also had to trim the length and width, seems I bought it too big and kept slapping myself in the face! All is good now as long as I dont lose it, I'm looking for a replacement as we speak. Good Luck, my release is much better since switching too.

Thanks. I think the size is fine. I measured my hand and ordered the same size I would have ordered in a glove. The flimsy leather backing just bugs me. I'm gonna get the scissors!

I haven't made up my mind on the splitter yet. It looks like it could be a bear to get back in if I took it out. I'm gonna do one thing at a time.

Yeah I ended up taking the rubber splitter off because it had torn over time and in order to get all the leather off I just went ahead and removed it. Haven't decided if I like it with or without-  Good luck to ya

I just tried it with the leather trimmed off...better.

I also took the splitter out. Can't say that it made much difference. I'd still have to stick with the glove for hunting for now.

Cool, I agree stick with what you're used to for now. I try never to change anything during the hunting season unless absolutely necessary. If you look under the classifieds in the treestand area, there's a guy named granpa selling some screaming eagle cordovan tabs, which I've heard are really good- 10 bucks shipped. They look similar to what ours have ended up like but with a slip though fitting rather than the adjustable elastic band that has been causing me fits lately. I need a backup so hopefully can get one from him.

I made my tab,drew an outline of how I wanted it on paper,cut it out,then traced it on the tongue of a pair of worn boots I was getting rid of.It is my favorite.                    Good Shooting,

HEY good idea, I dont have any boots I can rip the tongue off of though- If i could find some cordovan leather I'd just cut out my own shapes too. Mmmm have to look into that.

Tabs are one of those very personal things and the only thing to do is experiment and try different things. Many use a tab that's too big and don't get the best out of them they could. A tab doesn't need to extend more then 1/4" or so past your first finger joint. You'd think you would catch your fingers on the string but it won't....O.L.

O.L., I agree on the size. I ordered a medium and it only goes maybe 1/4 inch past my first joint when my hand is flat. Once you start to bend your fingers around the string the tab covers your fingertips completely.

I just have to get used to it before I'll feel comfortable hunting with it. Might be perfect for turkeys when a glove is just too warm.
