Recovering from injury
« on: November 24, 2008, 09:16:00 PM »
I had pretty extensive surgery to my bow arm two years ago.  (I tore my bicep tendon off the bone.)  I have regained all my strength, but shooting still bothers me a bit.  It's not a sharp pain, more of a discomfort when I shoot, then later sort of a dull ache.

Is this something that will go away with some gradual getting back into it?  Or should I ease back in with a lighter bow, I'm currently shooting a 57 @ 28 longbow.  Would switching to a recurve for the time being with a little less hand shock be helpful?

I don't think it's from shooting too much either, I probably have not picked up my bow a half dozen times since I got the cast removed.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I just want to get back into shooting and enjoying it like I used to.

I have had some muscle strain. You probably won't
be able to pick up where you left off. I would
start back with lighter bow to rebuild from the
surgery.....you may never get back to 57#,but
start light and work up.

Good luck

I'm going to be facing this too just having had heart surgery.  I plan on working up from 35 pounds back to my 60+ pounds probably taking 6 months.

Remember you don't have to actually shoot to practice.  Just keep a bow in the corner and practice drawing and holding...might as well work on the form while you build strength !   ;)
