longbow to recurve
« on: December 08, 2008, 09:52:00 PM »
I'm new here and new to traditional archery. Did the compound thing but thats been 10 years ago. Got my son a longbow and guess who is shooting it the most HA HA. Been shooting for 3 weeks and love it, can put 10 out of 12 in a 8" group at 15 yards, not great but sure is fun. Son said I need to get my own bow so I'm thinking about a recurve? Will I get better groups to start with? or start over? What will be the pros and cons?
Thanks for any help

Love the site-   dlprater

Get what feels good to you.  Group shrinkage comes from practice.  I started with recurves and recently picked up a longbow.  Learned the grip and everything else is the same to me.

Dlprater, why not get yourself a longbow similar to your Son's you enjoy shooting it? I agree with Bear Heart, group size is a result of practice. Frank

PS just don't get a bow too heavy for you. You didn't say what weight your Son's bow is, but I'd drop 10 lb from what you used to shoot with a compound. FV

It was nice and warm here in the south today, me and my son must have shot 200 arrows. Shot till we started getting worse and then figured it was time to quit.
FrankV-the bow is a Ragim Wolf-45# shooting 2016 XX75's. Archery shop has a nice Bear Grizzly that I like the looks and feel of.

Thanks for the replys.
