Help-drawing elbow???
« on: December 25, 2008, 10:34:00 PM »
Moving up from a 45-57 lb longbow... I also have a 50 lb recurve that I had been shooting well... At my draw its closer to 43-54# bow... both longbows are the same cept poundage,,,

I feel as though, My draw elbow isn't consistently coming around despite hitting anchor and other form issues being the same... ressure is felt on inside of elbow on the tricep/back side... Is this just a develop shooting muscle thing, or can anyone help?

You should be able to tell by drawing in front of a mirror if your drawing elbow is coming back the same with both bows.  It may be that you're finding it harder to pull with your back muscles, or it may just be harder to come to full draw with the heavier bow.

If you are pulling primarily with your arm muscles, your elbow won't be as far back at your anchor point as it will if you pull more with your back muscles.  When you pull with your back muscles, your shoulder blades move towards each other, which causes your elbow to rotate back into allignment with the arrow.

If you're shooting your lower poundage bow well, I'm sure your muscles will adapt in time to the higher poundage bow.  Just make sure you don't lose the good form you developed with the lower poundage bow.
