draw weight for gap shooters
« on: April 05, 2009, 02:52:00 PM »
just curious. for you guys that gap shoot, like i do, what is the draw weight your most accurate with? i thought i would never shoot anything over 45# but i have been shooting a 53# bow lately and i  can hold just as well. it only took about a week to get use to.....but now my lighter bows feel harder to shoot( release). anyways just wanted to hear what you guys shoot and any thoughts or opinions.

thanks

I think it is about four seconds on average. I'm lucky to have found an aiming system that works for me: Out to 25 metres, I just put the point of my arrow on the target; after that, I have to start raising it above the target. It's weird, but it works just as well at 3 metres as at 25 metres. A couple of my mates shoot the same way, but with their physiological differences, and arrow length difference, they have to do more holding over or under - but they do have a longer point-on range (even though we all shoot 3-under). So, I suppose I shoot a very simple gap method.

I dont know why draw weight would be any different for gap shooters than it would be for other types of aiming.

generally the gap shooters ive seen hold for a couple seconds. its just a question out of curiousity. didnt say it had to be different than other shooting styles.

bmb You can still shoot instinctive and hold for a few seconds. I do. During practice I try to hold for 3-4 seconds. 42# bow.
