Booohoohooo....
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:18:00 AM »
....it's a sad day today. It's the last day of early bow season here in Wisconsin.  This Saturday the orange army will invade the woods and hunting will not be the same the rest of the year. Shucks:( Well, at least I got some good bow hunting in while I could and have the late season to look forward to(and flinging some slugs at running deer in the meantime).  December late season here we come!    Matt

I'm feeling the pain with you Matt.  I had to work today, and it was windy and cold, but I went out and spent 45 minutes sitting in a tree just to make one last ditch effort.  I always have good intentions and hopes for late season, but the reality of it is that the best of the fall is over with now.  "[dntthnk]"

My property is in a HRZ (EAB) so I will be out there bowhunting wearing my blaze. I have not gotten my doe yet, these deer have been VERY nocturnal this year. I have my ideas why but don't know if it just normal because my apple trees are not producing as much or weather or my neighbors putting too much pressure on them....... All I know is my sightings have increased slightly recently SO if the gunners don't totally mess it up, I might still get my doe and buck. I have some good trail cam pix so I know they are on my land, cruzing our ridges at least. I have heard a lot of stories like mine this year so I don't feel too bad. I bet when this years archery harvest numbers come in we will probably see a decline.... Not putting money on that BUT my small poll seems to show this.

Man,
I am feeling the pain of the orange men badly this year.  My last hunting day before gun season opened last weekend, I watched a bruiser of a buch chasing a doe for half an hour.  I never got an arrow off at him, but got him captred on video.  I bowhunted there on Saturday, and was in the middle of a bunch of rifle fire.  Worse yet, I have a little honey hole behind my house which is just a half mile out of the city limits.  My wife said that she hadn't heard any shooting on opening weekend, so I was encouraged.  I had passed on several deer there including a pair of twin yearling bucks who come into my backyard food plot every day.  Then yesterday I noticed a truck parked along the road of the little 10 acre patch that borders my neighborhood.  Just before dark last evening my wife called to tell me that he had just fired the canon off just a few yards over the property boundary, then drug the deer to the road.  Worse yet, he was back again this morning and will likely keep filling the unlimited doe (and antlerless buck) tags until the deer stop coming.  Why anybody would rifle hunt in the middle of an area surrounded with houses and a school just dumbfounds.....and irritates me.
