Help, changing to three-under
« on: August 04, 2009, 04:05:00 PM »
My bottom finger (split finger) is beginning to give me trouble. I guess I am getting old. So, I am switching to three under. I feels real awkward and my accuracy is way off. I need insights from those of you who have switched from split finger to three-under. Things like arrow tuning, bow tuning, etc. would be a great help. Both of my bows are not tillered for three-under. Does that make a lot of difference? Mark

You will need to retune. Nock point will be a touch higher. May need to adjust brace a bit if the bow gets louder (some do some don’t). Also try two nock points ( one above and one below) but keep about 1/16 to 3/32" between the bottom of the arrow nock and the top of the bottom nock (I have used a brass on top and tie one on for the bottom but have switched to tying on both either works well).

As far as anchor, if you anchor in the same spot with the same fingers your arrow is going to be higher up on your face, you will hit low. You can adjust your anchor or get your brain to adjust for elevation (the latter I think is easer) either way it’s going to be a learning curve for the old gray matter. But once you have it down I think you will find you will like it most do

Good advice stated above by pops. I switched to 3 under in April after close to 50 yrs split. To get my accuracy where I wanted it I started at 5yds and worked my way back to 30 yds, 2 yds at a time. Also look at your tab hand and notice how far you have to move your index finger forward to have an even deep hook release, this should help with any finger problems...PR
