Bow shooting to the left with Weak Spine arrow
« on: September 26, 2009, 09:13:00 PM »
OK.  So since i first started i was shooting four inches to the left with broad heads.  My bow is #54 at 28", with easton heritage 150's cut to 26 3/4 inch arrows with 125 grain broad heads and my draw length is 24 and 1/2 ".  So by me shooting dead on with field points and 4 inches to the left should mean my arrows are too stiff.  So i bought traditional only 500's and tried bare shaft tuning them.  Without cutting them at all i was shooting 4 inches to the left with 125 grains points.  Too stiff.  So i bought epic 600's and tried bare shaft tuning them.  They too shoot 3 inches to the left with 125 grain field points ad no length taken off. Is it possible that my bow shoots week spined arrows to the left instead of the right??  Im holding my bow straight up and down.  What do yall think the problem is?

Hunter Smith.

I think that since the bow is doing the opposite of what you would expect with weak spined arrows, it's probably not the bow doing it, but Hunter Smith.

Even though we may believe we are shooting purely instinctively, without regard to the arrow, the image of the arrow is still there in our mind, somewhere, if only in the subconscious.  The image of a broadhead is different from the image of a field point.

Try getting your dominant eye more centered over the arrow, perhaps by tilting your head over the arrow or canting your bow a little and keeping your eye over the arrow, and see what effect that has on where your broadheads are hitting.

Well hold on.  I spoke to soon.  I drill dots with field points.  It was when i shot broad heads that i consistently shot left.  and if my form is the same as when im shootin field points would my arrows not be to stiff?  Sooo then when i go to bareshaft tune new uncut arrows, my form is the same only the bow is straight up and down as recommended for bareshat tuning.  Sooo are u sure that its me?

It is recommended that you should shot the bare shaft the same way and manner that you normally shot.  If you are drilling with the bow canted.  Cant the bow the same way when you bareshaft.  Just rotate the little chart you are going by.

I made the assumption when I first read your post that your left impact was comparing fletched broadheads with fletched field points.  But then I reread your comment about shooting with the bow in a vertical position, and wondered if you are bareshafting with broadheads?  Otherwise, why would you be shooting the broadheads with the bow vertical, when you normally cant the bow?  If you are bareshafting with broadheads, any unusual change in the point of impact would more likely be caused by planing than anything else.

BTW, it would be normal for arrows to impact to the left when you shoot with the bow in a vertical position if you normally shoot with the bow canted, because your dominant eye will be farther to the left of the arrow when you shoot with a vertical bow, unless you tilt your head more than you usually would to compensate for that.  But this wouldn't explain why broadheads would impact to the left of field points, especially if shot with a weaker shaft.  You may still be getting some planing, even with fletched shafts, and may want to try re-orienting your broadheads on the arrow shaft, so that some are vertical, some horizontal, and some in between, to see if this has any effect on the point of impact.
