Sight pin for training and target panic.

Little background...

I got into shooting about 3 or 4 years ago. I got good, then slowly got worse, and then pathetic. I got target panic to the point I refused to shoot in front of people. I decided since I can shoot a tick off a coons behind from 50 paces with my iron sight .22 that maybe I should tape a pin on my bow. Slowly over the past 7-8 months I have gotten better. A couple of weeks ago I took the pin off and was VERY consistent at 15 yards and didn't miss the target once out to 30 (very good for me and my small bag target). My anchor is now steady and consistent, my sight picture is now repeatable, and when I miss I now exactly what is missing. It's usually my release.

Yesterday a kid from my church that I got interested in shooting brought his bow out while me and his dad where talking guns. He took a few shots and I saw the oh so familiar signs of target panic setting in. I quickly grabbed a tooth pick and electrical tape and had him hitting a coffee can size group again at 10 paces. Told him how to work with it and if you want to keep it on keep it, but it can be just a learning tool.

I say this because I know there are others out there that have dealt and are dealing with the same issues. Give this a try its amazing how much it can teach you about sight picture and form issues. It cured me of my target panic. I wish I would have tried this sooner.

I used a wooden match to help tune my arrows to my bow. Improved my shooting so I could tell the difference between poor shooting and arrow spine issues.

I say whatever it takes to overcome TP
and keep your head in the game....yep, do it.
I went to sights & clicker and am happier than a
punk rocker with a bag of hammers stapled to his ear.

Glad that worked for you. Part of my TP was due to sights(on a compound). Shooting my longbow with no sights eliminated that gotta shoot now, the pin is right there. I tried using the gap method briefly, but found it was causing my TP to come back. Thanks for sharing the tip, it might very well help others.

I'm not a "deer" hunter, I'm a bow hunter that occasionally shoots a deer.
