Clicker Question - What happens when you take it off ??
« on: January 28, 2010, 05:16:00 PM »
I have been contemplating trying a clicker to help me get control of my shot and improve form.  I got to thinking about what happens if/when you decide to remove the clicker?  What I mean is, does your mind get so used to the sound of the "click" to trigger release, that if you decided to take it off the bow, you would then be waiting for a "click" that isn't coming, and thus cause even more problems then you started with??  Or does your now improved form take over and the constant pulling as described by Rod Jenkins take over and you automatically release?

Anyone have experience with this??

Thanks
Jake

I had one on for 8 weeks ,worked every day with it, I used the click to make sure I was at full draw then pulled through, amazing how hard it was at first to get to full draw every time . I took it of this week , I feel the same as if it were on.Shooting ,back tension, overall form improved 100 percent. I will put it back on as needed.  Mark

If you put in the work to establish a solid shot sequance while training with a clicker, the results will carry over, once you remove the clicker.....however just putting a clicker, pulling with your arms to make it click wont help you any and once you take it off, your pretty much right where you were before.

No, I won't be at K/zoo this year...I booked a student without checking the calendar  :)

Always in Michigan when I am somewhere else turkey hunting...

I've been pretty lacidazical (sp) with my shooting since December.  I am going to have to buckle down get out my form master and then search for that feeling and see if I can find it on my own until I can get a little help from the master.

Once I get back from Kzoo, I am going to study my MBB3 and get serious about improving my form.

Maybe Denny can steer me in the right direction this weekend...BAM!

What Rod said, a clicker should be used as a TOOL and not looked upon as a miracle cure! I have used one for 2 years and when I shoot a bow without one, my shooting goes to crap. Thanks Rod for giving me another piece of the puzzle.

Good reminder Rod.  I see your piont that the clicker is a training tool not a cure all, and should be used in conjunction with proper form.  After MBB III I have really been working on my back tension, but still have a litte bit of panic happening at anchor point and was hoping this may help.

I can pull through the shot but any hesitation at achor causes me to let go, most of the time prematurally.

Was just curious that I may get a little used to the stimulus of the "click" for release than just havinG "just happen" as described in MBB III.

Thanks for the comments.

iv been using a clicker for about a year to help with a few issues i had shooting, about 2 weeks ago i took it off ( however i did not use the clicker to trigger the release i used it to ensure proper extension and alignment, from there i would pull through to release)

now that i have that established in the shot sequence i took it off ( took a good year it wont happen overnight)

Right now iv never shot more accurately and consistently
(the clicker is a great tool)
There is more to the Hunt.. then the Horns

Andy

Well stated as well.  I believe it will be very hard for me not to use the click to trigger the release, as I have started shooting an olympic style recurve for the local spot round, and a click sound is what triggers that release.

I may have to give that up for awhile while I train with my hunting bow (but I enjoy the olympic style so much, that will be tough to give up)

I had not thought of setting the click to assure complete extension, I was only thinking of it a anchor point tool.  With that in mind, I think it would be very useful for consistant back tension and extension, with the idea of continuing to pull through the shot after the "click".

Thanks for the added insight Andy!
