What size alum. shaft for 56# recurve?
« on: November 16, 2007, 07:03:00 PM »
I've been shooting 31" XX75 2219's out of my 56# recurve at 28.5" draw but it takes 180grns up front to make'm bend enough to fly well.  No complaints on flight but the end product is in the upper 600 grain range.  I'd like to shave off 80-90 grains and get'm shoot'n just a little flatter with a 180 head.  So, what size should I move down to?  I'm not up on the whole alum. spine sizing thing.  Thanks

I would say a 2216 but ya would not loose a ton of weight, try a 2117 at 31"s with 125-145 that should work for ya. Shawn

I have some 2117's if you are interested.

I shoot 2114's out of my 55# longbow and they fly great.

a 2016,29" length with 180 grain head gets you about 525 grains total weight.i used to shoot them out of a 56# pronghorn, but they will shoot a little weaker out of the curve i think.if you need 2 or 3 to try let me know,i also have some 2018s if you want to try some let me know.best regards, robert

I believe the 2018 with a 125 head would be the ticket and save you weight like you want, but if you're hooked on the 180 grain head I'm thinking you'll need to jump to at least a 2117.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll dig through my stack of random arrows and see if there's any 2116's or 2117's to try out.
