Problems with new tab

Been trying out a tab for the first time, always been a glove guy.  Problem I am having is I'm scratching the crap out of my face on my right cheek bone.  It's a cordovan tab from ABS, split finger with a rubber seperator.  The cut seems to be coming from the hard plastic reinforcement piece at the base of the tab.  
I love the way the string slips off the tab, but after a few shots I'm in enough pain that I have to go back to the glove.  Am I doing something wrong form wise, or am I just digging the anchor in too deep for that style tab?

Any ideas greatly appreciated    :confused:

Hey House.

The reason you are getting some contact is because the leather on the glove has distanced your actual finger tip from your anchor point.....now you are using bare fingers which brings them closer to your anchor point.

Might want to consider spending some time toying with anchor points while canting the bow.....it helped me when I decided to learn the tab.

2 issues that are possibilities from your description...without seeing you shoot.

Your tab face needs trimming and the excess material is slapping you every shot.

Without realizing it, your collapsing a release and the tab base, is scraping you as your hand comes forward.....same issue I look for when someone tells me the Cavalier tab scratches their face

I don't "think" I'm collapsing.  You and Terry and Curt helped me a bunch with my form last fall.  I believe my video is still on the member form improvement videos section.  I really dig my anchor into my face and I'm wondering if I just need to cut the top of the tab (the top as if the tab were against my face) off, wonering if it just sticks up too high and is cutting into my cheekbone.

Yep...I remember.  I had the same issue when I tried a tab....I didn't think of trimming it.

I just trashed it and put my glove back on.

Yep, get to trimmin'.  I have to take a pair of scissors to all of mine when they are new.

I have the same problem with the ABS tabs. In my case it's the plastic plate at the back of the tab.

I use a Bateman tab &, after I trimmed it to size, it works great. So does the Super tab from ABS. It's a simple traditional type tab made from Cordovan.

I've trimmed all my tabs so that when I draw the string, I have about 3/8 in. of bare finger tips showing. I can feel my anchor really well. Still protect my fingers & with the tab trimmed, the tip of the tab on my first finger doesn't gouge my face. Don't know if this is right or not but, it works for me.

Thanks for the replies guys...going to do some trimming tonight!  I guess if I ruin it, no big deal seein' as I can't shoot it the way it is!

If that doesn't do it then maybe check for string contact.  You get the string a lot closer to your face with a tab.  The string will do it for sure and a brass nock will really speed up the blood letting.

just trim a little at a time and through this process is where we learn...not too tight, nor too loose on our face. When I get too tight, the string starts scraping my lip/corner of mouth and then it all starts falling apart.

Could some one post pics of where the tab should be cut to???

Pics wouldn't really be of much help. because everyone has different needs as to tab face length.

A good way to get a starting point for trimming a tab is to use baby powder on the tab face and shoot , then  keep reapplying powder and shooting....after several shots, you should see a line where the string leaves the tab. Add 1/4" to the string line and trim there. If the tab face is still slapping you, trim another 1/8".
